لَعَمرُكَ إِنَّني لَأُحِبُّ داراً
تَحلُّ بِها سَكينَةُ وَالرَبابُ
By your life, I do love a house
Where peace and lute music dwell,
أُحِبُّهُما وَأَبذُلُ جُلَّ مالي
وَلَيسَ بِلائِمي فيها عِتابُ
I love them both. I'd give my all
To have them. None reproach me. Well,
وَلَستُ لَهُم وَإِن عَتِبوا مُطيعاً
حَياتي أَو يُغَيِّبني التُرابُ
If they reproach me, I'm not keen
To heed them. Be it life or grave,
