It delights me with a tale as if it were

The clear water of al-Safa flowing over my confused liver

You say you see in my poetry all magic

And how can my heart overcome such magic

It turns me between joy and sorrow

Sometimes I see ice and sometimes embers

And if it weren't for it, your love would not have stormed my mind

And I would not have become a master freely wandering with it

And I would not have fallen into your grasp confused

And your mouth and cheek would not have touched me

So glory to Him who gave you the power of His spirit

And made the spirits submissively yielding to you perforce

Be gentle with those whom you have made love-crazed

As you see a sign in the page of the universe that does not settle

Lo! This divine poetry is immortal

And it suffices Thurayya that you cast poetry with it
