وَهَل أَنا إلّا مهرةُ عربيّةٌ

وَهَل أَنا إلّا مهرةُ عربيّةٌ

سليلةُ أفراس تحلّلها بغلُ

سليلةُ أفراس تحلّلها بغلُ

And am I anything but a pure Arabian filly—

A scion of noble steeds, lawfully covered by a mule?

فَإِن نَتجت مهراً كريماً فَبالحرا

فَإِن نَتجت مهراً كريماً فَبالحرا

وَإِن يكُ إقرافٌ فما أنجب الفحلُ

وَإِن يكُ إقرافٌ فما أنجب الفحلُ

If she foals a noble colt, that is only to be expected;

But if there is tainted breeding, the sire has begotten nothing noble.
