أأسيد إن مالا ملك

ت فسر به سيرا جميلا

If I owned what I do not possess, I would have traveled a beautiful journey

Alas for the generous if I could find a way to their brotherhood

آخ الكرام إن استطع

ت إلى إخائهم سبيلا

And drink from their cup, even if they drank deadly poison

Do not be like the ignoble, nor be a camel kneeling before their brothers

واشرب بكأسهم وإن

شربوا به السمّ المثيلا

The generous, when they visit their brothers, are overflowing with merit

Leave alone those who count on a stream that will not flow

أهن اللئام ولا تكن

لأخائهم جملا ذلولا

My son, money does not cry when a miser perishes

If I decided to travel from one land to another

إن الكرام إذا توا

خيهم وجدت لهم فضولا

Then protect - though the path be arduous - a brother or a friend

Mount yourself if your sad soul sought the plains and valleys

ودع الذي يعد العشي

رة أن يسيل ولن يسيلا

Bring together the generous and be easily accessible to those whose affection you seek

Leave procrastination in affairs and be gentle and yielding towards them

أبنيّ إنّ المال لا

يبكي إذا فقد البخيلا

Extend your hand with dew and stretch out for it long arms

Spend that which you possess and establish an honored reputation

أأسيد إن أزمعت من

بلدٍ إلى بلدٍ رحيلا

Be determined when you strive for something to dispel the invading gloom

Expend your very soul, honoring your guest until his departure

فاحفظ وان شحط المزا

ر أخا أخيك أو الزميلا

Alight at the habitations of the protected and avoid the flooded

And if the leather waterskins compete one day and the vessels rumble

واركب بنفسك إن همم

ت بها الحزونةً والسهولا

Then snarl like the snarling lion who bloodied his terrified prey

Go down to the battlefield if its heroes disliked descent

وصل الكرام وكن لمن

ترجو مودّته وصولا

And if you are called to glory, be a carrier of its overwhelming flood

ودع التواني في الأمو

ر وكن لها سلساً ذلولا

وابسط يمينك بالندى

وامدد لها باعاً طويلا

وابسط يديك بما ملك

ت وشيد الحسبَ الأثيلا

واعزم إذا حاولت أم

را يفرجُ الهمّ الدخيلا

وابذل لضيفك ذات رح

لك مكرما حتى يزولا

واحلل على الأيفاع لل

عافين واجتنب المسيلا

وإذا القروم تخاطرت

يوما وأرعدت الخصيلا

فاهصر كهصر الليث

خضّب من فريسته التليلا

وانزل إلى الهيجا إذا

أبطالها كرهوا النزولا

وإذا دعيت إلى المه

م فكن لفادحه حمولا
