كم ليلة فيكَ وَصَلْنا السرَى

لا نَعْرِفُ الغَمضَ ولا نستريحْ

How many nights have we reached the beloved

Not knowing sleep nor finding rest

واختلَفَ الأَصْحاب مَاذَا الَّذِي

يزيلُ من شكواهم أَوْ يُريحْ

And the friends wondered what it was

That would remove their complaints or give them peace

فَقِيلَ تَعْرِيسُهُمْ سَاعَةً

وقلتُ بلْ ذكراك وهوَ الصحيح

It was said a wedding hour

And I said nay, but thoughts of you, and that is right
