O Abu Amir, you are the beloved to my heart, even if I spent an age enduring your reproach.
Do you turn away even as a phantom in my slumber, and withhold even a greeting sent with the travelers?
As if I were a sinner being punished for his crime, yet I had no crime other than my affection.
O angry one, is there any return to contentment? O distant one, is there any path to closeness?
O Garden of Paradise, do enemies cut me off from your sealed red wine or your sweet fresh water?
O you whose departure took my solace away, leaving me stripped of resolve and heart.
Let me taste, through your grace, the harvest of the bees, for you have made me swallow bitterness through your blame.
I used to deem abandonment the greatest calamity, yet compared to true separation, it has become the least of troubles.
I shall make a festival of the day you return, where your face becomes the prayer-direction for this wandering lover.
I will raise the banner of reunion in the realm of youth, sacrificing thereby my lovesickness and distress.
The heart is yours, holding no dwelling for another; I have granted it to you, so dwell in it with ease and welcome.
