غَدرُ اِبن جرموزٍ بفارسِ بهمةٍ

يومَ اللّقاءِ وكان غير معرّدِ

The treachery of Ibn Jarmuz towards a valiant knight

On the day of battle, though he was not prepared

يا عمرُو لَو نبّهتهُ لَوجدتهُ

لا طائِشاً رعشَ الجنان ولا اليدِ

O Amr, had you cautioned him, you would have found him

Neither confused, nor trembling of hand

كَم غمرةٍ قَد خاضَها لم يثنهِ

عَنها طرادكَ يا اِبن فقع القرددِ

How many deep waters has he traversed and not been deterred

By your pursuit, O Ibn Fuqai'a al-Qurashi

فَاِذهَب فَما ظفرت يداكَ بمثلهِ

فيمن مَضى ممّن يَروحُ وَيغتدي

So go, your hands will never capture one like him

Among those who have passed, those who ride off and raid

إِنّ الزبيرَ لذو بلاءٍ صادقٍ

سمحٌ سجيّتهُ كريمُ المشهدِ

Indeed Az-Zubayr is truly steadfast in trial

Good-natured, noble in bearing

هَبلتك أمّكَ أن قتلتَ لمسلماً

حقّت عليكَ عقوبةُ المتعمّدِ

Your mother has miscarried you in killing a Muslim

The punishment of intentional killing is obligatory upon you
