The eyes of the one who saw the likes of him, a young man

More generous and more zealous in fury, and more patient

When the tongues turn towards him, he plunged into them

Towards death, until he left the spear red

And I swore my teary eyes will not cease to weep

For you, nor will my dusty skin cease to be ashy

As long as time lasts, no dove in the valley cooed

Nor did the dawn with its light expel the night

I was pleased with the best of people after their prophet

And after Abu Bakr, he who did not fall short
