رأت دولة النمسا التقادير سائره

على مشتهاها وهي بالروس ظافره

Austria saw its fortunes declining

As it boasted victory over the Russians

توهمت النصر الذي نيل أنه

على يدها مع أنها عنهُ قاصره

It fancied the triumph it thought

Was in its grasp, yet it fell short

وقد نسيت تعضيد المانيا التي

على روسيا كانت لها هي ناصره

It forgot Germany's support

That backed it against Russia

وظنت على ايطاليا الكر ممكناً

فكرت تمنى النفس بالنصر باشره

It deemed victory over Italy feasible

Thus its soul craved success outright

ولكن جيوش الروس كانت تأهبت

وصارت على استئنافها الحرب قادره

But Russian forces were ready

And able to resume the war

فهبت لها من كل حدب وازمعت

على البطش بالنمسا اليه مبادره

They charged from every valley and hill

Eager to defeat Austria

وكان برسيلوف الشهير يقودها

فكرت سيوف العزم والفتك شاهره

The famous Baryatinsky led them

Brandishing the swords of resolve and conquest

وشنَّت على الاعداءِ أصدق غارةٍ

مُضعضعةً منها قواها وقاهره

They launched the fiercest raid

Shaking its strength, defeating it

وكالت صفوف النمسويين ضربة

بها انقطعت أوصالها متناثره

Austrian ranks suffered a blow

That scattered them apart

وردَّت على الاعقاب من أرض روسيا

طلائعها منكودة الجد عاثره

Its vanguards retreated from Russian soil

Stumbling, utterly routed

تفرُّ وبرسيلوف يُنضي وراءَها

ركائب جُردٍ بالفوارس طائره

Fleeing as Baryatinsky chased them

With bare cavalry galloping swiftly

يشدُّ عليها بالطراد مغادراً

عزائمها من وطأة الضغط خائره

Pressing them with hot pursuit

Sapping the strength from their resolve

تحاول بالفر النجاةَ من الردى

فلا تجدُ المنجى فترتد حائره

They try to flee, to be saved

But find no escape, bewildered

ولما رأت انَّ النجاة تعذرت

وان سراياها الى الهلك صائرة

When they saw no salvation

And their legions doomed

وأن اليها كيدها لمصوبٌ

وأن عليها الدائرات لدائره

And their scheming had failed

And disasters encircled them

وان كماة الروس تغشى غليسيا

عليها لو التدويخ والفتح ناشره

And the barrage of Russians swept Galicia

Unleashing havoc and conquest

وتحتل فيها أشهر المدن والقرى

لها فرق الغازين كالسيل غامرة

The invading corps occupied

Its famous cities and villages like a flooding tide

لأنهارها مجتازةً وحصونها

مقوضةً حتى المضايق عابره

Crossing its rivers and razing its fortresses

Even breaching its straits

ولبت نداء الآمرين لها بأن

تدين بتسليم الى الروسِ صاغرة

They heeded their commanders’ call

To surrender to the Russians humbled

فسلم منها في ثلثة أشهرٍ

جماهير كانت بالحياة مقامره

So they surrendered in three months

Armies that gambled with life

ومجموعها بالعد عشرون فرقةً

لها روسيا في ساحة الحرب آسره

Numbering twenty divisions

Now Russia’s captives of war

وذلك نصرٌ رنَّ في الارض ذكرهُ

وسكان روسيا تهادوا بشائره

A victory whose fame rang in the land

And Russia’s people exchanged tidings
