ذكرُ مجدٍ من طيهِ يعبق النش

A glorious name whose fragrance from its folds

Spreads musk in our homes,

ذكرُ مجدٍ ما دار في في الفم إلا

كبَّر السامعون والذاكرونا

A name of glory that whenever mentioned

The listeners and those speaking magnified,

كبَّروا كلهم جهاراً وصاحوا

هكذا المجد ينبغي أن يكونا

They all glorified it openly and shouted

That's how glory should be,

فتش الباحثون في المجد تاريخ

المعالي يستنطقون القرونا

The researchers delved into the history of glory,

Interrogating the centuries,

فرأوا فيه أن مجدكِ هذا

لم يدون له الرواة قرينا

And in it they saw that this glory of yours

Has no equal recorded in history,

لم يخصُّوا دفاعهم بكِ بل هم

دافعوا عن حرية العالمينا

They did not limit their defense to you, but

Defended the freedom of all nations,

وقفوا للغزاة وقفة آسا

دٍ امام العرين تحمي العرينا

They stood firm against the invaders, guarding

The lair as lions guard their den,

في وجُوهِ الالمان من بدءِ هذي ال

حربِ فردونُ قمت سداً متينا

From the start of this war, O Farouk, you stood

As an impenetrable barrier against the Germans,

You crippled them in the Battle of El Alamein,

They could not extend a hand,

حلتِ دون امتداها وعليها

رُغت ضرباً حتى قطعتِ الوتينا

You stopped their advance and bombarded them

Until you severed their spine,

وابنُ غليومَ بالتحرك أغرا

ها ومنها لم يلق الا سكونا

And William's son, tempted by maneuvering

Found only stillness there,

هكذا كان ذلك اليوم والالما

Thus was that day, and the Germans

Retreated from El Alamein defeated,

كُسروا كسرةً تردى وليُّ ال

عهد فيها خزياً وعاراً وهونا

Broken in a way that degraded the Crown Prince,

وقضى فيهِ نحو عشرين شهراً

And for some twenty months he roused

Against you a raging war,

لم يفرط في ما رآه كفيلاً

أن يكون انتصارهُ مضمونا

He did not neglect anything he saw as ensuring

His victory would be guaranteed,

وإذ استوفى ما أراد وألفى

كلّ شيءٍ بامرهِ مرهونا

And when he completed what he wanted, finding

Everything at his command secure,

أصدر الامر بالهجوم فرجت

حولكِ الارض من خطى الهاجمينا

He issued the order to attack and around you

The land quaked under the footsteps of the assailants,

وعليكِ الجيوش كالسيل طموا

فيلقاً تلو فيلقٍ زاحفينا

And upon you the armies flooded like a torrent

Column after column advancing,

ومن الشرق والشمال تصدوا

لكِ مستقتلين يقتحمونا

From east and north they confronted you

Fighting fiercely as they charged,

وتنزوا على قلاع ضواحيك

انقضاض القضاءِ ينقضونا

They swooped down on the forts around you

Like the swoop of destiny they charged,

ما حمتكِ الحصونُ بل حامياتٍ

ناضلت عنك وهي تحمي الحصونا

The forts did not protect you, only the garrisons

Struggled to defend you as they defended the forts,

هم تباروا في الذود عنك مشاةً

يسبقون الركبان والطائرينا

They competed in shielding you, the infantry

Outpacing the cavalry and the airmen,

وتجاروا اليهِ يستسهلون ال

صعب فيهِ بل يزدرون المنونا

They raced to it, trivializing the difficult

And disdaining death itself,

وتواصوا أن يثبتوا ويصدوا

عن صياصيك كرة الهاجمينا

They were determined to stand firm and repel

The attackers time after time from your fence,

وتفانوا فيهِ وهم غير موتٍ

في سبيل الدفاع لا يبتغونا

They sacrificed themselves without fearing death

As they sought only to keep your precious protection intact,

باذلين الحياة طوعاً لكي يب

قى حماكِ العزيز حراً مصونا

And they turned away from comfort and prosperity

Which once they enjoyed,

وتجافوا عن راحةٍ ورفاهٍ

بهما كانوا قبلُ مستمتعينا

And they resolved with determination to repel

The invaders, even to smash the ribs of armored men,

وأَعدوا عزماً يفلُّ شبا الا

غازين بل يفري أضلعُ الدارعينا

And for your eyes they stayed up night after night

Denying sleep to visit their eyes,

ولعينيكِ واصلوا السهُّد حتى

منعوا النوم أن يزور العيونا

And for your eyes Farouk they drew swords

That wanted nothing but chests and eyelids,

ولعيني فردون سلوا سيوفاً

ما أرادت غير الصدور جفونا

They met the iron blows with crushing blows

Bending and softening it,

وتلقوا عنك الحديد بضربٍ

ساحقٍ منهُ قلبهُ أو يلينا

They were not deterred by the enemies swarming

Upon them massed like a solid structure,

لم يرعهم أن العداة عليهم

هجموا كالبناءِ مرصوصينا

They tore their ranks apart and on the hilltops

Drove back their crowds retreating,

مزقوا شملهم وعنكِ على الأع

قاب ردُّوا جموعهم ناكصينا

They claimed that reaching Farouk was easy

But they found beyond it wolves and sorrows,

زعموا أن وصل فردون سهل

فرأوا دونهُ ربىً وحزونا

They gained nothing from their million

And more sacrifices,

ما استفادوا من بذلهم نصف ملي

ونٍ ولو زادوا فوقهم مليونا

They kindled against you a fire but when

You subdued it, it was fuel for them,

هم شبُّوا عليك ناراً وإِذ أن

قذتِ منها كانت لهم أتوُّنا

They sought a gulp of victory but got

Only aloes and boiling water,

وابتغوا نهلة انتصار فباؤُوا

And they saw that with Frederick

And your defenders, Napoleon's hordes remained,

ورأوا أنهم بقيا فردريكٍ

وحاموكِ رهط نابليونا
