وانظروا هجرة السلام اليها ال

آن لما نبا به الخافقانِ

Look at the immigration of peace to it, when

The pulsers announced the news to it

هجر الارض كلها هارباً من

وجهِ حربٍ مشبوبة النيرانِ

It deserted the whole earth fleeing from

The face of an aroused war, blazing fires

لم يجد ملجأً لهُ غير مصرٍ

والى مصرَ جدَّ في الاتيانِ

It did not find refuge for it other than Egypt

And to Egypt it hurried coming

وبها حلَّ حيثُ لم يرَ فيها

اثراً للحرب الزبون العوانِ

And in it settled where it did not see in it

A trace for the arrogant enemy forces

ومحلُّ السلام اضحى لمصر

لقباً أو يُضافُ كالعنوانَ

And Egypt's abode became for peace

A title or appended like an address

إننا منهُ في هناءٍ واهلُ أل

ارض من هول الحرب في أحزانَ

We are in bliss from it, and the people of the

Land are in sorrows from the horror of war

غيرَ أنَّا لهم مؤاسون في ما

هم يقاسون من سعير الطعانِ

Except that we sympathize with them for what

They suffer from the hellfire of stabbing

هل يسوغُ الهنا لنا وحلوقُ ال

ناس طرًّا في غصة الاشجان

Is happiness justified for us, and joining of

People headlong in the anguish of sorrows?

لا ولا نطمئنُّ الا اذا ما ال

حرب لفَّت كالميت في الاكفان

No, and we are not reassured unless

War has wrapped like the dead in shrouds

هي حربٌ ثارت فعمَّت رزايا

ها وليست تنفكُّ في ثوران

It is a war that raged so its calamities spread

And does not cease raging and overflowing

وطغى شرُّها فغشَّى البرايا

وهو باقٍ يشتدُّ في الطغيان

And its evil overwhelmed the wilderness

And it continues intensifying in overflowing

فاذابت من الحديد قلوباً

وأشابت مفارق الولدان

So it melted hearts of iron

And made the separation of children hoary

والوفَ الالوفِ أردَت وهم يا

لهف قلبي من نخبة الشبَّانِ

And wanted thousands and thousands, while my heart

Yearns, o peaks of youth

وأحلَّت دماءَهم فجرت في ال

ارض هدراً تسيل كالطوفانِ

And made their blood flow in the

Earth copiously flowing like floods
