أواخر شهر تموز أرتنا

بداءة أزمةس ستدوم دهرا

Late in the month of July we saw

The beginning of a crisis that will last an age

ففيها جحفل النمسا تعدى

حدود السرب مهتاجاً مضرى

In it, the swarm of Austria transgressed

The boundaries of the swarm, raging harmfully

وأصلى روسيا غليومُ نار ال

وغى ليشد من جوزيف ازرا

And Russia prayed, William setting ablaze

The fire of chaos, to gain support from Joseph

وكرّ بجيشه يغزو فرنسا

من البلجيك مخترقاً ممرا

And he marched his army to invade France

From Belgium, piercing a passage

تعمد أن يفاجئها بضرب

ينال به على الحلفاءِ نصرا

He intended to surprise them with a strike

Through which he would gain victory over the Allies

فاصلتهُ فرنسَ لظى دفاعٍ

رآه من لظى سقرٍ أحرَّا

So France met him with intense defense

Which he saw as intensely hot

وحينئذٍ به زعقت بريطاً

نيا العظمى وقد وسعته زجرا

And then Great Britain shouted at him

The great protector, and she had warned him

ورابع ليلةٍ من شهر آبٍ

عليه أزمعت للحرب شهرا

And on the fourth night of the month of August

She prepared for war for a month

وعبأت الاساطيل اللواتي

بسطنَ على محيا البحر برا

And she drafted the fleets which

Spread across the surface of the sea

شققن عبابه عرضاً وطولاً

بواخر ماخراتٍ فيه مخرا

They split its immensity lengthwise and widthwise

With dreadnoughts plowing through it

رواس كالجبال وهن اذ ما

يسرن فمن وميض البرق اجرى

Leaders like mountains, when they proceed

The sparking of lightning flows from them

دردنطاتهن زأرن حتى

أَشبن مفارق الالمان ذعرا

Their thunderous roaring until

They resembled the Germans fleeing in panic

فلولاهن لم نرَ ما رأينا

وعدّ الحق اهل البطل صفرا

Without them we would not have seen

What we saw, and Truth promised the people of valor victory

فهنّ هدمن ما الالمان شادوا

وهنّ لنصرهم حولن كسرا

It was they who destroyed what the Germans built

And it was they who turned their victory into defeat
