أَلا هَل أَتاها أَنَّ دَجلَةَ ذَلَّلَت
عَلى ساعةٍ فيها القُلوبُ تُقَلَّبُ
Has she not learned that Tigris once subsided
In an hour when hearts toss about restlessly?
تَراها عَلَيهِ حينَ حَبَّ حُبابُها
تَبارى إِذا جاشَت بِمَوجٍ تَضَرَّبُ
You see it overflowing when she loves her banks
Rushing with waves colliding and breaking over each other
نَعَينا بِها كِسرى عَن الدارِ فَاِنثوى
لِأَبعد ما يُنهي الرَكيكُ المُرَقَّبُ
We lament for her Kisra's home abandoned
To ruins where death keeps watch implacably
