أَمِّرَت خَثعَمٌ عَلى غَيرِ خَيرٍ

ثُمَّ أَوصاهُمُ الأَميرُ بِسَيرِ

A brute was appointed as commander, to no good end,

Then the commander instructed them to march on,

أَينَما كُنتُم تُعيفونَ لِلنا

سِ وَما تَزجُرونَ مِن كُلِّ طَيرِ

Wherever you disturb the people and drive away every bird,

The birds evaded you in surprise, and dreams of al-Zubayr deceived you.

ضَلَّتِ الطَيرُ عَنكُمُ بِجَلولا

ءَ وَغَرَّتكُمُ أَماني الزُبَيرِ
