1. لَقَد كُنتَ خَيّاطاً فَأَصبَحتَ فارِساً

    تُعَدُّ إِذاعُدَّ الفَوارِسُ مِن مُضَر

    You were once a tailor, but now you are a knight,

    Counted among warriors of the tribe of Mudar.

  2. فَإِن كُنتَ قَد أَنكَرتَ هَذا فَقُل كَذا

    وَبَيِّن لِيَ الجُرحَ الَّذي كانَ قَد دَثَر

    If you deny this, then speak up and say so,

    Reveal to me the wound which you tried to hide.

  3. وَإِصبَعُكَ الوُسطى عَلَيهِ شَهيدَةٌ

    وَما ذاكَ إِلّا وَخزَها الثَوبَ بِالإِبَر

    Your middle finger bears witness,

    Pierced as it was by the needle and thread.
