وَلَم أَرَ لِلحاجاتِ عِندَ اِلتِماسِها

كَنُعمانَ نُعمانِ النَدى اِبنِ بَشيرِ

I have not seen anyone as generous when asked

As Nu'man, Nu'man of Nada, son of Bashir

إِذا قالَ أَوفى ما يَقولُ وَلَم يَكُن

كَمُدلٍ إِلى الأَقوامِ حَبلَ غُرورِ

When he speaks, he speaks truly, though he was not

Like a rope stretched out to the people, of deceit

مَتى أَكفُرِ النُعمانَ لَم أُلفَ شاكِراً

وَما خَيرُ مَن لا يَقتَدي بِشَكورِ

When could I be ungrateful to Nu'man? I'm unaccustomed to being thankful

What good is one who does not follow the example of the grateful?

فَلَولا أَخو الأَنصارِ كُنتُ كَنازِلٍ

ثَوى ما ثَوى لَم يَنقَلِب بِنَقيرِ

If it were not for the brother of the Ansar, I would be like dwellings

That dwelled in a place that did not echo with camels
