ألا أبلغ بني مروان عنا

فقد أعطيتمُ كرما وخيرا

Convey to the clan of Marwan from us

أيقتل شيخنا ويرى حميد

رخي البال يستبئ الخمورا

Does our elder get killed and Hamid sees this

With a carefree mind getting drunk?

فناكت أمها قيس جهارا

وعضت بعدها مضر الايورا

So their mother, Qais, cried openly

ولا والله ما كرمت ثقيف

ولا كانوا على كلب نصيرا

By Allah, Thaqif did not give generosity

Nor were they a protector of any dog

فان دمنا بذاك وطال عمر

بناوبكم ولم يحدث نكيرا

If our blood is shed for this and lives prolong

We will take turns with you without causing harm

صبحناهم غداة بنات قين

ململمة مناكبها زبورا

We attacked them one morning, the daughters of Qain

With disheveled hair, reading scriptures

قواصد للوى ومتممات

جبا جنفاء قد نكبن أيرا

Seeking the beloved with determination

Stern, frowning, stumbling backwards

تعسفن الجناب منكبات

ذرى دبر يعاولن النذيرا

Disturbed, turning away, warning

The winds did not stop blowing turbulent

ولم تعف الرياح وهن هوج

بذي أرل وبلعاه القبورا

At Dhi Arl, graves swallowing them

And when the flags of dawn appeared

ولما أن بدت أعلام صبح

وجوش الذيل بادرت النذيرا

And the tail shook, it warned disaster

For whichever one its bridle reached

فلأيا ما تناول ملجموها

أعنة قرحٍ ذهبت صدورا

It was a fatal wound, chests perished
