1. O herald of Islam’s death, rise and mourn him!

    Right has died, and evil has come.

  2. What ails Quraysh—may its stature never rise—

    whom they advanced today, and whom they held back?

  3. Could the true worth of one like Ali be hidden

    from them, when the sun cannot be veiled?

  4. Nor can a radiant banner be furled,

    lofty—the hand of God unfurls it for him—

  5. until they mend the breach within their close-knit body;

    yet a fissure in rock cannot be repaired.

  6. Quraysh’s champion amid the tumult of its wars,

    its Discerner, its Greatest Truthful One,

  7. and the dispeller of anguish whenever a dire plight

    leaves whoever enters it unable to find a way out.

  8. For God he proclaimed His greatness and prayed, whereas

    those stained by fault neither prayed nor proclaimed His greatness.

  9. Their scheming led to the deed they committed;

    ruin upon them—how vile was what they plotted!
