غُلامٌ لِأَبي داو
د يدعى سالق الروس
A servant boy of Abu Dāwūd
Called a seller of heads
وَفي حُجُراتِهِ قَملٌ
كَأَمثالِ الجَواميسِ
And in his chambers are lice
Like armies of locusts
فَمَن ذا يَشتَري الروس
وَقَد عَشَّشنَ في الروس
So who will buy the heads
When the lice have nested in the heads
رؤوسٌ قَد أَراحَتكَ
رُؤوسٍ في النَواويسِ
Heads that have given you rest
Heads among the rubbish
تُحاكي أَوجُهَ المَوتى
وَريحاً كَالكَراييسِ
That mimic the faces of the dead
And give off a stench like carcasses
يُنَقّي القَملَ مِنهُنَّ
إِذا باعَ بِتَدليسِ
He picks off the lice from them
When he sells with guile
