1. ومهفهف يزهو علي بجيده

    وبخصره وبردفه وبساقه

    His cheeks glow with youthfulness

    His waist, hips and legs allure me

  2. وافى إلي وقلبه متخوف

    كتخوف المعشوق من عشاقه

    He came to me, his heart filled with apprehension

    Like a lover fearing his admirers

  3. حتى إذا مددته وحللت عن

    كفل مباح الحل بعد وثاقه

    Until I drew him near and removed

    The permitted garb after our separation

  4. وافت إلي أصنة من دبره

    بخلاف ما قد فاح من أطواقه

    He turned to me, his back exposed

    Unlike what had emanated from his collar

  5. فأجبته ماذا فقال بحرقة

    ودموعه تنهل من آماقه

    I asked him, what is it? He said with burning grief

    His tears flowing from his eyes’ corners

  6. هذا ابن بسطام أتاني طارقاً

    بلطيف حيلته وحسن نفاقه

    This is Ibn Bastaam who came to me invading

    With his subtle cunning and feigned sincerity

  7. وعلا على كفلي وبلغم مثقبي

    برياله المنهل من أشداقه

    He climbed onto my shoulder and pierced my aperture

    With his spear flowing from his mouth

  8. فبقى صنان رضابه في مثقبي

    زمناً لحاه الله بعد فراقه

    So the marks of his blows remained in my aperture

    For a time, may God erase them after our parting

  9. فالله يحرمه معيشته كما

    قد سد مكسب مثقبي ببصاقه

    May God forbid him his livelihood as he has blocked

    The earnings of my aperture with his saliva
