1. بَكى الغَريب لفقد الدار وَالجار

    ان الغَريب غَزير دمعه الجاري

    The stranger wept for the loss of home and neighbor

    The tears of the weeping stranger flowed

  2. أَهاجه الركب اذ قالوا الرَحيل غدا

    أَم شاقه لمع ذاك البارق الساري

    The caravan stirred him when they said, “We leave tomorrow”

    Or did the glare of that swift lightning disturb him?

  3. أَم باتَ يرقب نارا بالحمى وَقدت

    يا موقد النار لا عذبت بالنار

    Or did he spend the night watching a fire kindled with fever?

    O kindler of the fire, do not torment with fire

  4. هب النَسيم بأَرواح يمانية

    تهدي إِلى الشأم ذاكَ المندل الداري

    Send the breeze with spirits from Yemen

    Taking to Damascus that wavering robe

  5. فبت وَالقلب مَجروح جوارحه

    حيران أَضرب أَخماسا بأَعشار

    So I spent the night while his wounded heart’s feelings

    Were perplexed. Should I compose quatrains or quintets?

  6. نام الخليون من حولي وَما عَلِموا

    أَتى سَمير صبابات وَتذكار

    The boon companions slept around me without knowing

    That Sameer came, bringing wine and a reminder

  7. ذكرت جيرة نجد يوم دارهم

    دارى وَسما رذاكَ الحَي سمارى

    They recalled the neighborhood of Najd, the day they

    Were my home, and the sky my neighbor

  8. وَذبت وجدا لأرض لي بها وطر

    هَيهات كَم بَينَ أَوطاني وأَوطاري

    I melted with yearning for a land that was mine

    Alas! How far between my homelands and encampments

  9. يا ممرضي بربا نجد أَعد مَرضى

    عَسى يَعودون عوادى وزوّاري

    O you who nurse the illness of Najd’s expanse, prepare the patients

    Maybe they will return to me, visiting and caring

  10. فقد وهبت لغزلان العذيب دمي

    وَلَم أطالب عيون العين بالثار

    For I shed my blood for the does of Al Uthayb

    And did not ask the eyes for vengeance

  11. لَولا فراق الفَريق النازلين عَلى

    حكم الهَوى ما وشى دَمعي باسراري

    Were it not for the separation of the band who descended

    By the rule of passion, my tears would not reveal my secrets

  12. فَكَم تقسم قَلبي نية عرضت

    مَقسومة بين انجاد واغوار

    So how does the intention that appeared divide my heart

    Split between Unayzah and the empty quarter?

  13. يا معمل العيس من شام الى يمن

    معوّدا حمل أَهوال وأحطار

    O bearer of terrors and perils from Syria to Yemen

    Accustomed to bearing dangers and sorrows

  14. سلم عَلى الحَي من نيابَتي برع

    وَقل لهم حين تنبيهم باخباري

    Greet the neighborhood on my behalf courteously

    And tell them when you wake them with my news

  15. رأَيته حول بيت اللَه في زمر

    من طائفين وَحجاج وَعمار

    I saw him circling God’s house among processions

    Of pilgrims, visitors, and caretakers

  16. وَقَد قَضى عمل النسكين محتسبا

    وَنال ما نال من غفران غفار

    And he finished the ritual acts of pilgrimage virtuously

    Attaining what he attained of the forgiveness of the Forgiver

  17. لكنه ضاقَ ذرعا أَن يحج وَلَم

    يزر شَفيع البَرايا صفوة الباري

    But he was sorely grieved that he performed Hajj without

    Visiting the intercessor of mankind, the elite of the Creator

  18. محمدا دعوة الحق الرَسول إِلى

    عرب وَعجم وَبدو ثم حضار

    Muhammad, the truthful invitation to Arabs, non-Arabs and Bedouins, then civilized people

    The secret of secrets, the essence of essences, the best youth

  19. سر السرارة لب اللب خير فَتى

    من فتية سادة السادات اخيار

    Among the youth of the masters of masters, the virtuous

    The repository of beauty and benevolence, the generous one

  20. مستودع الحسن والاحسان ذو كرم

    بالخير اجود من روح الصبا الذارى

    More generous with good than the blowing fragrant breeze

    Immersed in his name are all the praises

  21. مستغرق باسمه كل المحامد من

    علم وَحلم وافضال وايثار

    Of knowledge, patience, grace, and altruism

    Your greeting to blessed Taif which inclines

  22. حياك يا طيبة الغراء صوب حيا

    يهمى بمنسجم في الحي مطار

    Toward the neighborhood melodiously with gliding flight

    Where the prophecy has pitched its pavilion

  23. حيث النبوة مضروب سرادقها

    عَلى رياض جنان ذات أَنهار

    Upon gardens with rivers flowing through

    God is Greater! Independent in His majesty, He who

  24. اللَه أَكبَر ذافرد الجَلالَة ذا ال

    كاسي من الكيس وَالعاري من العاري

    Clothes the naked and exposes the vain of their vanity

    Possessor of cosmic delight, holder of guidance’s secret, He of

  25. ذابهجة الكون ذا سر الهداية ذا

    روح الوجود المصفى خير مختار

    The purified spirit of existence, the Best of the chosen

    Jesus’ Bible, with the Torah brought us good tidings

  26. انجيل عيسى مَع التَوراة بشرنا

    ببثه مسندا عن كعب أَحبار

    Of his mission, supported by the words of the rabbis

    And how many authentic prophetic miracles and traces belong to him

  27. وَكَم له في عَلامات النبوّة من

    مصنفات صَحيحات وآثار

    Like healing the sick, increasing water and making the wild animals and birds sociable

    And the staff speaking, and weaving the spider’s web, as

  28. كبرء مرضى وَفيض الماء مزيده

    وأنس نافر غزلان وأطيار

    The second of two doves laid eggs in the cave

    And the limb which spoke to him, and the boulder which softened for him

  29. وَنطق ضب وَنسج العَنكَبوت كَما

    باض الحمام الثَاني اثنين في الغار

    And the clouds which shaded him, and for him the moon split

    And milk which copiously poured from his breast

  30. وَالعضو كلمه وَالجذع حن وَفي

    مَعناه تَسليم أَحجار وَأَشجار

    And how many noble honors of God’s messengers that

    Mankind has not reached a tenth of a tenth in knowing

  31. وَالغيم ظلله وَالبدر شق له

    وَالثدى فاضَ بدر منه مدرارا

    O Savior of the creations from Hellfire when they were

    Upon the precipice of a crumbling cliff

  32. وَكَم لا شرف رسل اللَه من شَرف

    لَم تبلغ الخلق منه عشر معشار

    My ordainment, my hope in tribulations, my

    Comfort, my treasure, my ease after hardship

  33. يا منقذ الخلق من نار الجَحيم وَهم

    عَلى شفا جرف هار بمهنار

    Hear these strange, sincere praises with which I do not intend

    Attaining houses, gold dinars or wealth untold

  34. يا عدتي يا رَجائي في النَوائب يا

    عزى وَكنزى وَيسرى بعد اعساري

    Rather, I hope from You in both abodes for compassion

    And in my stay between abode and abode

  35. اسمع غَرائِب مدح لا أريد بها

    تحصيل دار وَدينار وَقنطار

    I haven’t praised You while admitting to shortcoming

    Except to alleviate my bonds and burdens

  36. بَل أَرتَجي منك في الدارين مرحمة

    وَفي الاقامة بين الدار وَالدار

    And where can my praise of You reach after the praises

    Of the highest heavens? What of my rhymes and poems?

  37. فَما مدحتك بالتَقصير معترفا

    الا لتخفيف آصاري وأَوزاري

    Upon You the most immaculate prayers of God are everlasting

    Remaining for the duration of evenings and dawns

  38. وأين ينزل مدحي فيك بعد ثنا

    سبع المثاني وَما سجعي واشعاري

    The purest fragrances rain upon You and

    The emigrants, Family and Helpers and Ansar

  39. عليك أَزكى صَلاة اللَه دائمة

    تَبقى بقاء عشيات وابكار

  40. تندى عليك عَبير اطيبا وَعَلى

    مهاجرين وآل ثم أنصار
