هُوَ الْعِز في سُمْرِ الْقَنَا والْقَواضِبِ

وَإلاَّ فَمَا تُغْنِي صدور الْمَرَاتِبِ

He is glory in the night sailing and boats

Unless breasts of positions are useful

وَسِيَّانِ أغْمَار الرِّجَالِ وصِيدهَا

إذا لَمْ يُمَيَّزْ فَضْلُهَا بِالتَّجَارِبِ

And two blacks of men and their game

When their virtue is not distinguished by trials

وَمَنْ زَاحَمَ الأخْطَارَ أحْمَدَ غبَّهَا

فَإمّا لِظَفْرٍ أوْ لِدَفْعِ الْمعَاتِبِ

And who dared the dangers, praised their stupidity

Either for victory or for preventing defects

وَلَوْ كَانَ إحْرَاز الفْضَائلِ هَيِّناً

لَسَادَ بِمَحْضِ الْقَولِ مَنْ لَمْ يُضَارِبِ

And if acquiring virtues were easy

Those who do not strike would lead by mere words

وَمَنْ عَرَفَ الأيَّامَ قَصّ غرِيبَهَا

وَفِي قِصَصِ الْبَاشَا عُيُونُ الْغَرَائِبِ

And those who knew the days told its stranger

And in the stories of Pasha the eyes of wonders

هُوَ الْمَلِك الدَّاعِي إلىَ الْحَقُ وَحْدَه

وَإنْ كَثُرَتْ أهْل الدَّعَاوى الْكَوَاذِبِ

He is the king calling for the right alone

Even if the people of false claims were many

أخُو الْعَزَمَاتِ الغُر ّلَوْ قارع السُّهَا

لأصْمَى بِسَهْم ٍحيث يَمَّمَ صَائِبِ

Brother of strong wills if he hits randomly

I would become deaf wherever an arrow went

جَرِيُّ جَنَانٍ ليس يَنْفَكُّ نَاهِضاً

إذَا هَمَّ أوْ يَبْتَز أسْنَى الْمَطَالِبِ

Running garden, does not stop attacking

If he intends or gains the best gains

يَرَى فلتاتِ الدَّهْرِ قبل نُزُولِهَا

وَيَعْلَم ما فِي الصّدْرِ قبل التَّخَاطُبِ

Sees randomnesses of fate before descending

And knows what is in the chest before talking

مَلاَذ بَنِي الهَيْجَا وَبَرْد وجُوهِهِمْ

إذَا مًا كَوَاهُمْ حَرُّهَا بِالْمَشَاهِبِ

Refuge of Bani Haija and coolness of their faces

When heat saddened them with sorrows

وَمَنْ مِثْلُه يُدعَى لِكَشْفِ مُلمَّة

إذَا قَالَ وَاغَوْثَاه أهْل الْمَصَائبِ

And who is like him called to uncover adversity

When the people of calamities screamed: Help us

دَعَتْه جِبَال الزَّابِ لَمَّا تَبَسَّطَتْ

يَد الظُّلْمِ فِي أوْسَاطِهَا والْجَوَانِبِ

The Zab mountains called him when the hand

Of injustice spread in their midst and sides

مَكَان سَحِيقٌ يَفْزَع الصَّبْر دونَه

وَأيْنَ مِنَ الخضراءِ خُضْر الزَّرَائِبِ

A dreadful place where patience falls short of

And where are the greens of meadows

شَكَتْ قَائِم الأعْشاشِ أقْوامَ غِلْظَةٍ

وبَأسٍ شديد بالخليقة واصِبِ

The people of firm nests complained of people

Of harshness, great might, rude and unjust

يَجوُرونَ فِي الأمْوالِ والبُضْعِ وَالِّدمَا

فَهُمْ بَيْنَ سَفَّاكٍ زَنِيمٍ وَنَاهِبِ

Oppressing money, chastity and blood

Among murderers, adulterers and robbers

وَقَدْ جَرَّعُوا الأقْيَالَ فِي الحرب غُصةً

لَوَتْ بِصَيَاصِي تُركِهِمْ والأعَارِبِ

And they had swallowed in war a sip

That pierced with Turkish and Arab swords

كَمَا رَفَعُوا رَأساً لَهُمْ بعد وَقْعَة

أشَابَتْ بِفَجّ القِيلِ سُودَ الذَّوَائِبِ

As they raised a head for them after an incident

That was contaminated with immoral scandals

فَما خَيَّبَ الدَّاعِي وَحُقَ لِمَنْ سَعَى

لِطَلْعَتِهِ أنْ يَنثَنِي غَيرَ خَائِبِ

But the caller was not disappointed and it was right for the one who strove

For his rise not to turn back disappointed

وَهَشَّ لِدَفْعِ الضَّيْمِ أوَّلَ وَهْلَةٍ

هَشَاشَةَ مَنْ يُدْعَى لأخْذِ الرَّغَائِبِ

And he fervently rushed at first to ward off oppression

The ferocity of one called to take the ruins

وَأعْرَضَ عَمَّا جَاعَلُوه لِنَصرِهِمْ

وقالَ جنَاب الله أوَّل وَاجِبٍ

And turned away from what they made for his victory

And said:God forbid,I am your servant and now the worst companion

وَوَقَّعَ فِي طَيّ الرّيَاحِ إلَيْهم

أنَا عَبْدكُمْ وَالْحَين أخْبَث صَاحِبِ

And he called them so they called him and delayed

Yes, for a while, until the book of sorrows was drafted

وَ نَادَى فَلَبَّته الدَّوَاعِي وَأبطَأتْ

نَعَمْ رَيثَما خَطَّتْ كِتَابَ الْكَتَائِبِ

And shook it urgently, selecting for intention

And piles of arrows counted for misfortunes

وَحَشْحَشَها جُرْداً تُخُيّرْنَ لِلنَّوَى

وَكُومَ ذرِّي مَعْدودَةً لِلنَّوائِبِ

She reached Birin first stop

And after nine turned towards ruins

فَوَافَتْ إلى بِئرِينَ أوَّلِ مَنْزِل

وَمِنْ بَعْدِ تِسعٍ حَلَّقَتْ بِالْهَوارِبِ

And passed by the bumps, its horse neighing aloud

Headed for Gaisaran between argument and pull

وَهَبَّتْ عَلَى الرَّخماتِ يَعْلُو صَهيِلُهَا

وَصَارَتْ لخَمْسٍ فِي مِيَاهِ الْمَراطِبِ

And news reached her in the belly of Jarish

So she escaped and returned in the vast playgrounds

إذَا مَا سَحَتْ أيْمَانُهَا نَحْوَ قُوَّةٍ

أبَانَتْ بأنَّ الْقَصدَ نَحْوَ الْمَغَارِبِ

And no fire light appeared in Wazazin

And the people's eyes were around the poles

وَلاقَتْ إلَى عباس بَرْداً مُبَرّحاً

وَدَارَتْ عَشِياًّ فَوْقَ أمّ الْمَنَاصِبِ

And in the wing of night it crept ready

Observing its course with the eye of the watcher

إلَى عُقْلَةِ الحرشان ثمَّةَ أورْدَتْ

بتيتة تُذْرِي التُّرْبَ إيرَادَ طَارِبِ

Walking in its light, illuminated

And dark below the mischievous darkness

وَقَد تَرَكَتْ زَارِيفَ خَلْفاً وَأسْنَدَتْ

إلَى غَائِرِ البِئْرِ اجْتِنَابَ الْمَجانِبِ

If their numbers were hidden from their gear

They would not have been wrong when they lit the false fire

وَمَرَّتْ على نَقْرِينَ يهْتَزُ مَتْنُهَا

إلى غَيصَرَان بَيْنَ حَادٍ وَجَاذِبِ

Who are they to think that expenses exceed them

When they lit fires of embers at night

وَصَحَتْ لهَا الأخبَار في بَطْنِ جَارِشٍ

فَفَرَّتْ وكَرَّتْ في فَسِيحِ الْمَلاعِبِ

They think that cunning protects their backs

As it was before in past years

ولمْ يَبدْ في وَازَازِنٍ ضَوْء نَارِهَا

وَباتَتْ عيُون القَومِ حَولَ الْمَضَارِبِ

So only the ruins of their homes remained

With no moaner or mourner

وفِي جُنْحِ لَيلٍ أدْلَجَتْ مُسْتَعِدَّةً

تُرَاقِب مُجْريهِ بِعَينِ المْرَاقِبِ

And the flock of horses flew in their rear

Repelling every fugitive

تَسِير على ضَوْءٍ لَهَا مُستَنِيرَةً

ومُظْلِمَةً دونَ الظَّلُوم المُشاغِبِ

And drew a sword from its sheath for every sheath

And destruction poured upon them from Marib's dam

ولو خَفيِتْ أعدَادُهَا عَنْ عِداتِهَا

لما غَالَطُوا إذْ أوقَدوا نارَ كَاذِبِ

You see the horses in their ruins like

Clouds of doom laden with clouds

فَمَنْ غَرَّهُمْ أنَّ الدَّوَاهِي تَفُوقُهُمْ

إذا أوْقَدوا بالليل نَارَ الحُبَاحِبِ

And blocked the escape route for everyone from every pass

And the vast roads narrowed for them

يَظُنُّونَ أنَّ المَكْرَ يَحْمِي ظُهُورَهُمْ

كما كَان قَبْلاً فِي السِّنِينِ السَّوائِبِ

So the red sun did not rise from their spear

Until they were planted on claws

فمَا أصْبَحَتْ إلاّ رسُومُ ديَارِهِمْ

وليس عَلَيْهَا غَيْرُ نَاعٍ وَناعِبِ

And they left their corpses being eaten

By a stab removing the heart from every mold

وقَدْ طَار سِربُ الخيلِ فِي أخرْياتِهمْ

يَردُّ عَلَى أعقْابِهِ كُلَّ سَارِبِ

So ask the Uraisha stallions about the dispersal

Of that defeated multitude ascending

وَسَلَّ الْبَلاَ مِنْ سَيِفِهِ كُلَّ مُغْمَدٍ

وسَال عَلَيهمْ بِالرَّدَى سُدُّ مَأرَبِ

Because they went astray, straying from their path

And all warded off defending sorrows

تَرَى الخَيْلَ فِي آثَارِهمْ مُسْتَطيرةً

سَحَائِب حَتْفٍ أردِفَتْ بِسَحَائِبِ

He has left them in the morning with worry

Hiding the bangs with headscarves

وَسَدَّتْ سَبِيلَ الفَلّ منْ كُلُ فَدْفَدٍ

وضاقتْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَاسِعات المَسَارِبِ

And they changed beauty that its place cannot be hidden

By rubbing what is between the beard and eyebrows

فمَا ارتَفَعَتْ شمسْ الضُحَى قَيْدَ رمْحِهِمْ

عَنِ الأفْقِ حتى أُنْشِبوا في المَخَالِبِ

If they kept it secret it would be scandalous

But your army does not wish to uncover

وأبْقَوا كَحِيلاَهُمْ تَخُور فِصَالُهَا

لِطَعْنٍ يُزِيل القَلْبَ مِنْ كُلّ قَالِبِ

Who are you, my lord of guards, so that he seeks you

While your face is a way to ideals

فَسَائِلْ عُرَيْشَ المَهْرِ عمّ تَقَشَّعَتْ

سَحَائبُ ذاكَ العِثيَرِ المُتَرَاكِبِ

People learned from you chastity in peace

And in the field of heroes overriding processions

لأمْرٍ أضَلُّوا أمْرَهُمْ عَنْ طرِيقِهِ

وَصَدُّوا جَميِعاًعَنْ دِفاعِ الْكَوَاعِبِ

You split the foreheads of all criminals

And threw them into their depth and the crevices

لَقَدْ تَرَكُوهُنَّ الْغَداةَ بِمَهْمَه

يُخَبينَ مْعسُولَ اللَّمَا بالعَصائِبِ

And they saw in battle a miracle

That you do not disappear from the eye of consent

وَغَيَّرنَ حُسْنَّا لَيْسَ يخْفَى مَكَانُه

بِتتَريبِ مَا بَينَ اللِحَى وَالحَوَاجِبِ

Did their armors stand still when hitting them

And did their swords obey the grip of the swordsman?

لئن خِفْنَ يا مَولَى الْحِفَاظِ فَضيِحَةً

فَجَيشُكَ فِي كَشْفِ الغطَا غَيْرُ رَاغبِ

If the yellow one delayed the complaint of their swords

The blue one carried out all calamities

وَمَنْ أنْتَ مَخدومٌ لًه كَيْفَ يَقْتَفِي

وَوَجْهُكَ مِرْآةٌ سَبْيِلَ الْمَثَالِبِ

It turned towards Safiha water plunging

Into the water of Abi Dukhan, the sea of sorrows

تَعَلَّمَ مِنْكَ النَّاسُ فِي السِّلْمِ عِفَّةً

وَفَلَّقْتَ هَامَ المُجرِمِينَ جَميِعَهَا

وَعَفَّرْتَهَا فِي غَورِهَا والشَّنَاخِبِ

To Nafta so it can shake off the dust of sorrows

وقَدْ شَاهَدوا عنْدَ النِّزَالِ كَرَامَةً

بِأنَّكَ عَنْ عينِ الرّضى غيْرُ غَائِبِ

Until the lively dress shook the solid

أمَا صَلّدَتْ أزنَادهُمْ عِنْدَ قَدْحِهَا

وَهَلْ طَاوَعَتْ أسيَافُهَمْ كَفَّ سَاحِبِ

وَإنْ أفْلَتَ الغُوَّارُ مِنْ بأس هَذهِ

فإمَّا لأخْرى أوْ لِنَوْحِ النَّوائِبِ

أيُفْلِت مَطْلُوبٌ بِكُلِّ نَقيِضَة

وَفِي جِيدِهِ وَالسَّاقِ غُلُّ المُطَالِبِ

وَإنْ أخَّرَ الصَّفْراءَ شَكْوَى سُيُوفِهِم

فَقَدْ قَضَتِ الزَّرْقَاءُ كُلَّ المَآرِبِ

وَوَلَّتْ إلَى مَاءِ الصَّفيِحَةِ تَرتَمي

بِمَاءِ أبِي دخان بُحْر الْحَقَائِبِ

وَقَدْ عَايَنَتْ مُلطَانَة جدَّ سَيْرِهَا

لِتَطْوِي لأمّ النَّاسِ ذَيْلَ السَّباسِبِ

ومَا شَطَحَتْ إلاَّ لإيمَاءِ بَارِقٍ

فَقَالَتْ حَرَامٌ أنْ يَقُودَ لِهَذِهِ

نَواَصِيَّ إلاَّ غَالِبٌ وابْنُ غَالِب

تُرِيدُ سُلَيمَانَ الْمُوَفَّقَ لِلْهُدى

وَكَيْدِ الْعِدَا عِنْدَ اصطِكَاكِ القَوَاضِبِ

And he leaned towards Bi'r Al-Ubairis after

فَيَا خَيْرَ مَوْلُودٍ وَيَا فَخْرَ وَالِدٍ

يَنُوبُ لَهُ مِنْ فَرعِهِ خَيْرُ نَائِب

فَأسرَجَهَا صُبْحاً وَذَاقَتْ عَشِيَّةً

مُوَيْهَةَ سُلْطَانٍ كَرِيه المَشَارِبِ

وَعَبَّا المَنَايا في الْحَوَايَا وأدْلَجَتْ

ورَاءَ عِتَاقِ الخَيل قُودُ النَّجَائِبِ

وَقَدْ زَاحَفَتْ نَحْوَ الْعِدَى بِسِلاحِهَا

تُشَوّلُهَا تُشْوالَ سُودِ الْعَقَارِبِ

The course of travel was unclear between its mounds

Above the horses’ backs or on boats

وَمَرَّ سُحَيْراً قَاطِعاً جَوْفَ نَخْلَةٍ

لِبِئْرِ حُنَيشٍ مُقْبِلاً غَيْرَ هَائِبِ

Every silent one crept into its depths

And every pale one climbed up its glory

فَلاقَى عَبِيداً في حِمَاها فَدَاسَها

وَخَلَّفَهَا تُصْغِي لِصَوْتِ النَّوَاعِبِ

Wondrous it appears and disappears but

It moves in both states like gazelles

وَقَامَ يُسَقِّي الْجَيشَ مِن قُلّ مَائِهِ

وَلَوْلاَهُ لَمْ تَبْتَلَّ من حَلْقٍ شَارِبِ

When it stumbled in the sand it looked as if

Invisible hands beneath pulled its bridles

وَمَالَ إلَى بِئرِ الأُبَيْرِصِ بعْدَمَا

تَرَشَّفَ من أرْيَاطَ بَعْضُ النَّوَاصِبِ

The knight of the green land ransomed from every raider

Eyes keeping awake in lovers' houses

وَمَا بَانَ عَنْ حَسْيِ الذَّئِيَلةِ ساعَةً

مِنَ اليَومِ حتى بَانَ وَجْهُ الْمَعَاطِبِ

In Duraimeen he lost his sleep and immersed

In Ghamra carrying on without a guide

وَطَبَّقَ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَأرْضِهَا

صَوَامِعُ بِيض أوْ مَحَارِيبُ رَاهِبِ

The green one escorts him in straying sometimes

And sometimes feels frustrated with the piercing stars

وَمَا هُوَ إلاَّ الْبَحْرُ يَرمِي بِمَوجِهِ

عَلى الأرضِ إلاَّ أنَّهُ غَيرُ ذَائِبِ

He unleashed his reigns from Bi'r Sanish

To Qurb valley, the farthest side

وَأشْكَلَ وَجْهُ الْسَّيْرِ بَينَ تُلولِهِ

أفَوقَ مُتُونِ الْخَيْلِ أو في القَوَارِبِ

He scattered what was between good things a group

That disappeared escaping before the lookout

فَخَفَّت إلى أغْوَارِهِ كُلُّ ضَامِرٍ

وَزَفَّتْ إلى أنجَادِهِ كُلُّ شَاحِبِ

She raided the raiders then an unforeseen raid

Leaving none of its youths but grayhaired

عَجِيباً لَهَا تَبدو وَتَخْفَى وإنَّمَا

تَسِيرُ عَلَى الحَالَينِ سَيْرَ الذَّوائِبِ

Gave them the death spring to drink so they got drunk

And emitted from horror many wonders

إذا كَبكَبَتْ فِي الرَّملِ سَاخَتْ كَأنَّمَا

تُجَاذِبُهَا من تَحْتِ أيْدي الجَواذِبِ

My father, by that honorable man and his patience

For what happened from affliction and problems

فَدَى فاَرِس الخَضْراء من كُلّ طَارِق

عُيُونٌ قِيامٌ في بُيُوتِ الْحبَائِبِ

The most worthy people of praise and thanks is the Master

Who welcomes you without grudges during anger

لَقَدْ ضَاعَ مَا بَينَ الدُّرَيْمِنِ نَومُهُ

وَغَمَّرَةٍ يَسرِي عَلَى غَيْرِ لاَحِبِ

O you whose fame flew challenging

Corners of the sky with glories

تَؤُمُ بِهِ الْخَضْرَاء في التِّيه مَرَّةً

وَتَأتَمُّ طَوراً بِالنُّجُومِ الثَّواقِبِ

The immoral races woke up miserable with you

Alive and in their bowels the remnants

وَأطْلَقَ مِن بِئرِ الصَّنيشِ عِنانَهُ

إلى قُربِ وَادي الجِدْرِ أبْعَدِ جَانِبِ

You crushed land no leader stepped with his army

Nor the fancy of vanishing kings

وَبَدَّدَ مَا بَينَ النُّعَمياتِ ثُلَّةً

تَوَارَتْ فَفَاتَتْ قَبْلَ فَرْعِ الْمرَازِبِ

You scattered alliances of disobedience from their homes

Roaming blindly in the worst doctrines

أغَارَتْ عَلى الغُوَّارِ إذْذاكَ غَارَةً

فلم تُبقِ منْ شُبَّانِهِ غَيْرَ شَائِبِ

Did any of their eyelids overnight stay awake?

And did any of their hearts oblige?

وَأورَدَهُمْ عَينَ المَمَاتِ فَأنْهَلُوا

وأصْدَرَ عَنْ هَولٍ كَثِيرِ العَجائِبِ

It is not strange you grasped the whole land

With the Saad prosper sword the first to strike

ألاَ بِأبي ذاكَ الوَجِيهَ وَصَبْرَهُ

على مَا جَرى من مِحْنَةٍ وَمَشَاغِبِ

That is how he ascends the surrounder and climbs

Above the base; he who wants honest glories

وَأوْلى الوَرَى بِالحَمدِ وَالشُّكرِ سَيِّدٌ

يُلاقِيكَ بِالتَّرحَابِ وَقْتَ التَّغَاضُبِ

You still blessed in every course

Your star associated with good consequences

وَوافَى قمَاراً وًالنَّواحِي فأشرْقَتْ

وَدانَتْ لِوَجهٍ مِن كِرامٍ أطَائِبِ

So.. preserve him, God the giver of success

The goal and empowerer over the guile of boats

لهمَّةِ مَولاَنَا الأمِيرِ وَحزمِه

جَرى مَا جَرى مِنْ أنْعُمٍ وَمَواَهِبِ

فَيَا أيُّها الْمَولى الذي طَارَ صِيتُهُ

فَزَاحَمَ أقْطَارَ السَّمَا بِالْمنَاكِبِ

غَدَتْ بِكَ أجنَاسُ الْفَجُورِ شَقِيةً

حَيَاةً وَفِي أجدْاثِها وَالتَّرائِبِ

وَدَوَّخْتَ أرضاً لَمْ يَطَأهَا بِجَيشِهِ

زَعيمٌ وَلاَ وَهْمُ الْمُلُوكِ الذَّوَهِبِ

وَشرَّدْتَ أحْلافَ الفَلاَ عَنْ دِيارِهِمْ

فَرَاحُوا عَلَى الْعَمْيَا بِشَرّ المَذاهِبِ

فَهَلْ بَاتَ جَفْنٌ مِنْهُمُ غَيْرَ سَاهِرِ

وَهَلْ صَارَ قَلْبٌ مِنْهُمُ غَيْرَ وَاجِبِ

وَغَيرُ عَجِيبٍ قَبضُكَ الأرْضَ كُلَّهَا

وَعِنْدَكَ سَيفُ السَّعدِ أوَّلُ ضَارِبِ

كذَلِكَ يَعْلُو لِلمُحِيطِ وَيَرتَقي

عَنِ الدَّونَ مَن يَبغِي نَقِيَّ المَنَاقِبِ

فَلاَ زِلْتَ مَيمُوناً لَدَى كُلً وِجْهًةٍ

وَنَجْمُكَ مَقْرونٌ بِحسنِ العَوَاقِبِ
