1. O you who gaze upon the dead with a weeping eye,

    Let your tears run freely down your cheek.

  2. This is the tomb of Fāfa, Yusuf’s daughter,

    A woman of modesty and exalted aspiration.

  3. And Muhammad Bey, the noble, the chosen,

    Was her grandfather; hence the names she bears are precious.

  4. So beseech the Giver of gifts to show her mercy

    That will efface wrongdoing and former faults.

  5. For God is too generous to turn away a supplicant

    Who prays for his brother among these crumbling graves.

  6. Perhaps, out of His bounty, He will build for her

    A house of bliss among the lofty palaces.

  7. And likewise, furnish her with this prayer as a chronogram:

    O Lord, lodge her in the spacious realm of well-being.
