الحمد لله الذي أرشدنا

معرفة المختار من أشياخنا

Praise be to God, who guided us

To know the chosen ones among our sheikhs

الشيخ من خصاله اثنا عشر

فستة من آدم أبي البشر

The sheikh has twelve traits

Six from Adam, father of mankind

الحزن والبكاء من يعقوب

والشوق والصبابة مطلوب

Sorrow and crying from Jacob

Yearning and youthfulness are sought

ويوسف ينال منه الصدق

ومعه الأمانة كي يرقى

Joseph attains truthfulness from him

And with it integrity to rise

ثم المناجاة من موسى مرت

ثم الاخلاص لابهذا يعبث

Then the whispering prayer from Moses passed

Then the sincerity, do not trivialize this

والزهد والسياحة من عيسى

تواضع محمد لا ينسى

And asceticism and wandering from Jesus

The humility of Muhammad is unforgotten

والخلق الحسان يا فتاة

أحسنها آداب في الثقات

And the good manners, O maid

The best of etiquettes among the devout

من لم يكن بهذه المثابة

ليس إلاالخسران قد أصابه

Whoever lacks these qualities

Nothing but loss has befallen him

ويأخذ من الطيور أربع

نظافة الحمام لا تضيع

And take from the birds four traits

The cleanliness of a dove, do not lose it

من الغراب الحذق ثم الصمت

من حرمة الباز قد استفدت

From the crow, shrewdness, then silence

From the eagle, sanctity has been gained

وكرم الديك وثم أرفع

من به أصغر ما عليه أجمع

And the generosity of a rooster, then higher

Whoever has the least of these, I agree

فعدم التغيير بأي شيء

لو جيفة وضعت فيه ياخي

That lacking any change

Even if carrion is placed in it, O my brother
