1. طالِعُ اليمنِ مقبلٌ في ازدياد

    سالم الكون من كمون الفساد

    The auspicious star rises, growing,

    Peace for the universe from the seeds of corruption.

  2. فتحَ الوقت منه للأنس بابا

    ياّ باب عليه سعدٌ ينادي

    Time opened for people a door to intimacy,

    Oh door! Happiness calls to it.

  3. فاطو عن جانب التوقي بساطا

    وامض طلق العنان نحو المنادي

    So cast aside the side of longing

    And freely direct your rein towards the caller.

  4. واطرح النصح من ثقيل تعنّى

    ربّما كان واحدَ الحسّاد

    And abandon advice from a heavy pretense,

    Perhaps one of the envious was offended.

  5. ما صوابٌ قعود من قد هداه

    لاغتنامِ النعيم والبسط هادي

    It is not proper that one guided should sit still,

    To enjoy the bliss and outstretched peace.

  6. إنّ من صدّ عن جميل أتاه

    كان أحرى بهجره والبعادِ

    Indeed, whoever turns away from a good that came to him

    Would be more deserving of abandonment and distance.

  7. هذه جنّة التهاني تجلّت

    بين ممسٍ من الربابِ وغاد

    This is the garden of congratulations that appeared,

    Between a twilight of dusk and departure.

  8. في شباب الزمان والأرض حاكت

    من غزيل السماء برد الوهاد

    In the springtime of life and earth narrated,

    From the twisted threads of sky the calm of valleys.

  9. فانظر الزهر طالعا في بياض

    وانظر الزهر صوبّت في سواد

    So observe the flowers rising in whiteness,

    And observe the flowers inclining into blackness.

  10. يكشف الليل هذه عكس هذا

    فالجديدان منهما في عناد

    The night reveals this the opposite of that,

    Yet both new things are in contention.

  11. وانظر الودقَ كيف يقطب خطواً

    بين خاف من الربوع وبادي

    And observe the blades how they contract a line,

    Between fearing the winds and the bare land.

  12. كلّما لاح في مواطيه خطّ

    صوّرَ الوهمُ قبله شكل صاد

    Whenever a line appeared in its terrain,

    Imagination figured before it the form of a hunter.

  13. فالبطاح استبان منها مثالٌ

    من قطيف موطّإ في مهاد

    So the dunes appeared from it the likeness,

    Of a short cloak laid out on a bed.

  14. والربى هودجٌ تحمّل عرساً

    أو كبيرٌ مزمّلٌ في بجاد

    And the knoll a litter carrying a wedding,

    Or an elder wrapped up in the desert.

  15. أطلع الوشيُ فيه للعين نوراً

    يطلعُ النور في صميم الفؤاد

    The pebbles showed the eye within it light,

    That brings out light into the heart’s depths.

  16. من بياض وزرقة واحمرارٍ

    واصفرارٍ وشقرةٍ واسوداد

    Of whiteness, blueness, redness,

    And yellowness, blondness, and blackness.

  17. صبغةُ الحق لو تأمّلت فيها

    كيف كانت من وحدة من مراد

    The dye of truth, if you contemplate it,

    How it was from the one will, from purpose.

  18. واصغ للطّير واعجبن كيف عادت

    تنشط النفس بالحديث المعاد

    And listen to the birds, and wonder how they returned

    To delight the soul with renewed speech.

  19. راقها الجو فهي في كل وجه

    تسرع المرّ في النواحي براد

    The weather pleased them, so in every aspect,

    They hasten to chirp in the environs coolly.

  20. ما لها تملأ المسامع سجعا

    وهي من عظم ما بها في طراد

    They do not cease to fill the ears with rhymed prose,

    And they have increased beyond the usual.

  21. تلك هي التي تعرّفت لكن

    زاد ما عندها على المعتاد

    I wonder if an event occurred with them,

    Or they called out for an event among people?

  22. أتراهُ لحادثٍ حلّ فيها

    أم تنادت لحادث في العباد

    Rather, they sang of the son of Hussein Ali,

    When he closed the door to all corruption.

  23. بل تغنّت بابن الحسين علي

    عندما سدّ باب كل الفساد

    Greet him with talk of him, and express,

    About him in every statement happiness.

  24. حيّهل بالحديث فيه وعبّر

    عنه في كل قولة بسعاد

    That dawn obscured the darkness from it,

    And the present and distant became equal in it.

  25. ذلك الفجر أجفل الدجن منه

    واستوى فيه حاضرٌ والبادي

    Or is it the full moon? But it has preference when

    It rose in earth, rising in theburial grounds.

  26. أم هو البدر بل له الفضل لمّا

    كان في الأرض طالعاً في الرآدي

    It frustrated the later ones, so they feared,

    While it is for the earlier ones the guide.

  27. أعجزَ اللاحقين بعد فخافوا

    وهو للسابقين أنف الهوادي

    And it earned gratitude and reward when

    It saw life becoming depleted.

  28. واقتنى الشكر والمثوبة لمّا

    أبصر العيش صائراً للنفاد

    It gave good morning to creation after the distress of life

    That before was not usual for them.

  29. صبّح الخلق بعد ضيق بعيش

    لم يكن قبل عندهم في اعتياد

    It included everyone in it without distinction,

    Between non-Arab, speaker, and inanimate.

  30. أشرك الكل فيه من غير فرق

    بين عجمي وناطق والجماد

    Its origin is the rain, and far from it sins,

    And it is for cutting those off diligent in struggle.

  31. أصلهُ الغيث والذنوب عداه

    وهو من أجل قطعها في جهاد

    How many faults in kings it censured,

    And it erased their enormous ones forcibly.

  32. كم عيوب على الملوك تعايت

    وهو يمحي عظيمها في اتّئاد

    It said to wine once, “Tell me truthfully

    About yourself, in the end and origins.”

  33. قال للخمرِ مرّة خبّريني

    عنك حقّا في المنتهى والمبادي

    Wine said, “It’s better to be silent than if

    A critic searched into my matter.”

  34. قالت الخمر سترُ ما شان خيرٌ

    لو سها عنه باحثٌ ذو انتقاد

    “I am but a drop of good water that came

    From the land of Aad.”

  35. أنا ما قد علمت قطرةُ ماء

    طيّب الأصل جئت من أرض عاد

    “I was a stranger in your land; of your subjects

    I had no loyal friend but hostile adversaries.

  36. كنت في غربة بأرضك مالي

    من مواليك غير خصم معادي

    “Among the people, I had no gentle companion

    Other than the company of those from my lands.

  37. لا ليني من الأنام خليلٌ

    غير رهط صحبتهم من بلادي

    “I lived among them in humiliation for ages,

    In caution from a nation hostile to me.

  38. عشت فيهم على المذلة دهرا

    في احتراسٍ من أمّة لي أعادي

    “Then, after that, I formed a plan

    To befriend the group of scoundrels.

  39. ثمّ أجمعتُ بعد ذلك رأياً

    أن أوالي جماعة الأوغاد

    “So I seduced their souls with diversion

    That imagines wakefulness in deep sleep.”

  40. فاستملتُ النفوس منهم بلهو

    يوهمُ الغرّ يقظة في الرقاد

    “And the near one to me became far,

    Thus was their affair in progression.”

  41. واستحال القريب منّي بعيداً

    هكذا كان أمرهم في تمادي

    “So when foolishness to them became serious

    And people altogether were in my hands.”

  42. فإذا الهزل عندهم صار جدا

    وإذا الناس كلهُم في قيادي

    “A person craves me and leaves

    Family, children, and wives.”

  43. يداب المرء لي ويترك أهلاً

    من وليداتهِ وذات الولاد

    “So today I have most of creation as troops,

    Rallying to my call assembled.”

  44. فأنا اليوم أكثرُ الخلق جيشا

    مهطعين لدعوتي في احتشاد

    “I usurp wealth wherever it may be from them,

    After usurping their minds and capturing them.”

  45. أسلبُ المال حيثما كان منهم

    بعد سلبي عقولهُم واقتيادي

    “None escapes me except a little, though I

    Exert utmost effort to seize them all.”

  46. لم يفتني سوى القليل وأني

    لاحتواشي جميعهم في اجتهاد

    “Soon you will hear the scream calling

    To arbitrate the dispute in every club.”

  47. عن قريب ترى الصريخ ينادي

    باحتكام الكميت في كل نادي

    Wine said, “You have revealed a clear flaw

    Beyond what the cleverest investigation seeks.”

  48. قال أفصحت عن حديث ممض

    يمنع العين من لذيذ السهاد

    “There is not in perception what you suppose, and I

    Do not prepare for what you imagined as my provision.”

  49. لا أرى العيش بعد ذلك يصفو

    أو أبكّي عليك صمّ الصلادِ

    “How many saw me before your existence as prey,

    From the crowds of kings in the lands.”

  50. إنّ من كان يحسمُ الشرّ مثلي

    ثمّ أبقاهُ فهو بالشر بادي

    “We never heard the like of what you said from them,

    Rather, we have a pact of protection from desire.”

  51. لا وحَقّ البريّ من كلّ ذنبٍ

    لا كوتني ذنوبهُم في معادس

    “Except that the few harbored a worry,

    So he is a blower into ashes.”

  52. لا ولا عقتُ أمّة لحبيب

    هو في الخطب ملجأي واعتمادي

    “Rather, your revered father changed my ways,

    Then, had he lived, he would be most hostile.”

  53. قالت الخمرُ أظهرَ الغيبُ عيباً

    دون ما تبتغيه خرطُ القتاد

    “I have supporters from mankind who appear,

    Then others, a fifth of them not apparent.”

  54. ليس في الوهم ما تظُنّ وأنّي

    لا أهيّي لما توهّمت زادي

    “So if a leader wanted to strike my face,

    They would exert every effort in my desire.”

  55. كم رآنيَ قبل كونكَ صيدٌ

    من ملوك زحمتهم في البلاد

    “Then I protected my border with abundance,

    So if you want more, take from my generations.”

  56. ما سمعنا بمثل ما قلت منهم

    بل لنا عقد ذمّة من مراد

    “What you see is that the best view,

    Is to follow the way of ancestors.”

  57. غير أنّ القليل قد همّ همّاً

    فإذا هو نافخٌ في رمادِ

    He said, “Your words are wrong,

    Nothing but striking iron with coolness.”

  58. بل أبوك الجليل غيّر رسمي

    ثمّ لو عاش كان أعدى العوادي

    “None of foolishness remains

    That one who sees the mind as model for people has left.”

  59. إنّ لي شيعةً من الإنس تبدو

    ثم أخرى خميسها غير بادي

    “As for response, it is that a person imitates

    One who makes independent judgments with his reasoning.”

  60. فإذا رام لطم وجهي زعيمٌ

    أعملوا الجهدَ كلّهُ في مرادي

    “Rather, it is from rage that a cunning one deceives

    An acute one, benefitting from his acuity.”

  61. ثمّ إني حميتُ ثغري بوفري

    فإذا ما استزدت خذ من تِلادي

    “And if you pay a debt to God,

    The Generous multiplies it.”

  62. ما تراه فإنّ أحمدَ رأي

    أن تؤُمَّ طريقةَ الأجداد

    “Oh chalice! If I caused you to sink into the ground,

    Would a horn of locusts gore the existence?”

  63. قال أخطأت ما حديثُكِ هذا

    غيرَ ضربٍ على حديد براد

    “So summon your supporters, if you wish for war,

    To mount mares uneasy for battle.”

  64. لم يغادر من الحماقةِ شيئاً

    من رأى العقل إسوةً في العباد

    “And write to Jesus to send a mediator,

    Or telegram when faced with killing.”

  65. ومن الرد أن يقَلّدَ شخصٌ

    ذو اجتهادٍ في حكمهٍ ذا اجتهاد

    “By my right hand, as you have heard in truth,

    If eyes see you after this moment.”

  66. بل من الغيظ أن يخادع كيسٌ

    بافتلاذ من كيسه مستفاد

    So the speech ended here, and every ear longed

    For the collision of the promised time.

  67. وإذا ما دفعت للّه قرضا

    ضاعفته يد الكريم الجواد

    And the people mounted the steed of determination and plunged

    Into the decline of wine in every valley.

  68. يا لكاع أئن خسفتك خسفا

    ينتطح في الوجودِ قرنا جرادِ

    Most of them forbid it happening, and some

    Said they hope, and some were doubtful.

  69. فاندبي شيعتيك إن شئت حربا

    يركبوا للهياج عوجَ الجياد

    Then, not long passed before

    They witnessed its coteries' destruction through blessing.

  70. واكتبي لليسوعِ يبعَث شفيعاً

    أو برقيا تقال عند الجلادِ

    Those taverns of its heyday, as if

    They did not revel yesterday, were in mourning.

  71. ما يميني كما سمعت بصدق

    إن رأتك العيون من بعد ساد

    I wish I knew, did Satan wail from them,

    Like he wailed for tyrannies of monstrous one?

  72. فانتهى القول عند هذا وتاقت

    كل أذن لصدمة الميعاد

    So it tested after them the nights, you hear

    Talk with its length restored.

  73. وامتطى الناس متن عشوا وخاضوا

    من زوال الكميت في كل وادي

    A resolve from the most resolute,

    The struggles taught the science of deterrence.

  74. جلّهم يمنع الوقوع ونزرٌ

    قال يرجى والبعض في ترداد

    “Oh prince! The time has finally come,

    And it is supremely proud among eras.”

  75. ثم ما دار دائر السبع حتّى

    عاينوا فلّها ببرك الغماد

    “There is no shame, rather you are a secret;

    Clear truth in the speech of covenants.”

  76. تلك حاناتها أيامى كأن لم

    تغن بالأمس أصبحت في حداد

    “If righteousness earns the righteous a lifetime,

    You have lived like Khidr, last of times.”

  77. ليت شعري أرنّ إبليس منها

    مثل ما رنّ للدواهي الشداد

  78. فاختبر بعدها اللياليَ تسمع

    من حديث مع طوله مستعاد

  79. عزمة من أتمّ أكمل حزما

    علّمته الخطوب علم الطراد

  80. يا أميراً أتى الزمان أخيراً

    وهو في الفخر أوّل الأعداد

  81. لا غضاضة إنما أنت سرّ

    بيّنُ الصدق في حديث العهاد

  82. إن يك البر يكسب البرّ عمرا

    عشت كالخضر آخر الآباد
