بَينَ الظُبا وَالعَوَالي تُرفَعُ الرُّتَبُ

ولا تُرى رَاحةٌ مَالَمْ يَكُنْ تَعَبُ

Between the antelopes and the tall mountains, ranks are raised

And no rest is seen unless there is fatigue

وَمَن تَسَامَى لأمرٍ عَزَّ مَطلَبُهُ

وَلَم يَقُمْ غَازِياً لَم يُدْنِه الحَسَبُ

And he who aspires to a difficult matter, its attainment is difficult

And does not set out as a warrior, nobility does not come near him

شَتَّانَ بَينَ ثَقِيلِ الجَنْبِ مُنبطِحٍ

وضَامِرٍ في لَظَى الأخْطارِ يَنتَصِبُ

Far apart are the heavily bodied laid down

And the vigilant in the ferocity of dangers erect

قَد كابَدَ السَّيِّدُ البَاشَا فَمَا قَعَدتْ

بِهِ الدَّوَاعِي وَلاَ أزرَى بَهَ النَّصَبُ

The master Pasha endured so the incentives did not make him sit still

And exhaustion did not diminish his vigor

وَاسْتَسهَلَ الصَّعبَ في تَحصِيلِ وَاجِبِهِ

حَتَّى قَضَى فِي المَعَالي كلَّمَا يَجِبُ

And he made the difficult easy in fulfilling his duty

Until he accomplished all the lofty goals

يأبَى المْكَارِمَ إلاَّ خَيْرَ أبْعَدهَا

وَيَتَّقِي نَزْرَهَا الدانِي ويَجْتَنِبُ

The generous refuses anything but the best of it

And the lowly avoids its measly share and shuns

فأي مَنْزِلَةٍ فَاتَتهُ صَهوَتُهَا

أو رُتْبَةٍ لم يَكُنْ فِيهَا لَهُ خَبَبُ

What rank was out of his reach?

Or what station was he not competent in?

سَلْ طَالِعَ الأُفُقِ عن مَرمى مَوَاطِئِهِ

تَدْرِي مَنَازِلَهُ الآفَاقُ وَالشُّهُبُ

Ask the horizon’s rising about the range of his dwellings

The horizons and stars know his abodes

هَزَّتهُ هَمَّام لَمَّا طَالَ قَاصِرُها

حَتَّى غَدّا ظَاهِرُ الْغَبرَاء يَضطَرِبُ

Goads of aspirations shook him when their tether was long

Until the dusty dawn became turbulent and restless

شَقُّوا العَصَا وَسَاروا مُجمِعِينَ عَلى

ما فِيهِ نَقض الهُدى يا بِئسَ ما ارتكبوا

The King readied them before that day bridled

For a day of tribulation crying and wailing

واستَضعَفوا الأمْرَ من أقصى الجَرِيدِ إلى

ما دونَ صَبرَةَ لاَ يَنْهَاهُم رَهَبُ

Each lean belly saddle makes them circle around the leanness training them to gallop

Best for them are triumph and the yellow leads them

أعْرَوا من الأمن مَن جازَ الطَّريقَ بها

فَبَاتَ صِفْراً فَلاَ أهْلٌ ولاَ نَشَبُ

And yellow is a secret of joy pulling them

They crafted from the night flanks for its structure

كَم مِنْ بَرِيءٍ أبَاحوا رَحْلَهُ فَغَدا

وَهُوَّ من بَعْدِ إتْرَابٍ لَهُ تَرِبُ

And from the sun’s trinkets ornaments when it disappears

They almost melt from the action within them

مَا راَقَبُوا فِي وَلِي إلَّ خَالِقِهِ

وَلاَ اسْتَلانُوا لِمَنْ لِلعِلمِ يَنتَسبُ

If not for the reins managing them or the curb

To God belongs its valiant knight charging forth

وَاَودَعُوا هَمَّهُمْ فِي كُلّ مَاهِيةٍ

وَذاكِ مَا دَلَّ عَن مَضمونه اللَّقَبُ

When the warriors drank deep from its watering hole

The saddle blankets wave from it touching its side

ظَنُّوا الدَّوَارَةَ تَحْميِهم وَحُقَّ لَهَا

لَكِنَّ بَعْضَ ظُنونِ المُدَّعِي كَذِبُ

And the plaits envy its supple trigs

How can anyone match its characteristics?

وَغَرَّهُم قَولُ مَن لَم يَدْرِ عَاقِبَةً

إنَّ الهِزَبْرَ أبا الأشْبَالِ لاَ يَثِبُ

While fortune serves it and the steeds and the noble born

It raided Semenja after the pond and in

وَكَذَّبوا مُنذِرِيهمْ حَرَّ صَدْمَتِهِ

وَهم على الَقطعِ في تَكذْيِبهم كَذبُوا

The soul of El-Khurayyib from its breath a flame

It camped at El-Jubaybina and for it

فَحَيْثُ لم يُثْنِهِم رَدْعُ الأمِيِرِ وَلا

لَوتْ رُؤُوسَهُمُ الأرْسلُ وَالكُتُبُ

Dawned a brilliant light heading for its meadow

When it spread in El-Batin it contracted

طَارَتْ بِهِ الْخَيلُ مِنْ سَيجومَ فَاغِرةً

أفوَاهَهَا وَعَلَى أشدَاقِهَا الْحبَبُ

Intending El-Sharayshira the plateau and drew near

It passed by the white-eyed and did not

تَمُرُّ مَرّ سَحَابِ الْجَوّ في دَعَةٍ

وَالنَّقْعُ مِن فَوقِهَا من خَفْقِها سُحُبُ

Stop it the eyebrow's fence from the waters forbid

In El-Fakka the tying rope was undone safely

أعَدَّهَا الْملَكُ قَبْلَ اليَومِ مُسرَجَةً

لِيَومِ مُعْضِلَةٍ تَبْكِي وتَنَتْحِبُ

After fulfilling a period of fighting and war

From El-Hafir to the aromatic Mâjil it surged

تُقِلُّ كُلَّ خَمِيصِ البَطنِ مُنجَرِدٍ

يَحنُو على الْجُردِ في تأدْيِبِها درب

Heading to El-Qafsa it gallops joyfully

In El-Aqilah it spread from its vanguards

أوْلى بها الظَّفْرُ وَالصَّفْرَاءُ تَقْدُمُهَا

وَالصَّفرُ سِرٌّ بِهِ الأفْرَاحُ تَنْجَذْبُ

Those who are adept in news to gather

It gave them glad tidings of longing that on

صَاغَتْ مِن الَّليلِ أطرَافاً لِهَيكَلِهَا

وَمِن حُلى الشَّمْسِ حَلياً حين تحتَجبُ

The back of Ed-Dawwara a people prone to ruin approached

It dealt with the ravines of El-Shat'h climbing

تَكَادُ تَنْقَدُّ مِن فِعلِ النَّشاطِ بِها

لَولا العِنانُ يُعانِيهَا أوِ اللَّبَبُ

To confrontation, nothing behind it remains

And after some rugged plains it found

لِلَّهِ فارِسُهَا المِقدَامُ مُستَهِلاً

إذا بَنُو الحَرْبِ مِن راوُوقِهَا شَرِبُوا

An easy road the trampler crowds it

It spent the night extending at the springs' heads and from

يَستْنَنبِلُ السَّرجُ مِنْهَا مَسَّ جَانِبِهِ

وَيَحْسِدُ اللَّينَ مِن أعْطَافِهِ القُضُبُ

There the discord disappeared and the riders gathered

And its east side preceded it

يُدبِرُ قَومُ الْعِدا فِي دَفْعِ صَوْلَتِهِ

رأياً وَيَفْجاَهُمُ مِن غَيرِ ما حَسِبُوا

And the hollow of it the piercing bullets filled

Batita remained defiantly with the armies

إذا سَقَى الطَّعنَة النَّجلا مُبارِزَهُ

تَوَجَّسُ الْعَطبَ مِنهَا جَارُهُ الجُنُبُ

Umm Al-Iqsab then El-Hirshan then An-Naqab

Then the mighty fortress ascended to which sought refuge

أنَّى يُحَاكِيِهِ شَخصٌ في شَمائِلِهِ

وَالسَّعدُ يَخدْمُهُ والخَيلُ والنُّجُبُ

Beforehand an army but they are now gone

It is the stronghold though its traveler

غَشَتْ سِمِنجَةَ مِن بَعدِ الغَدِيرِ وَفي

نَفسِ الخُرَيرِيبِ مِن أنفَاسِهَا لَهَبُ

Finds scarce of its protection the weakness

So push them O Master with an army

وَبالجُبيَبيِنَةِ استَنَّتْ ولَاَحَ لَهَا

شَاشٌ فَهِيَّ إلى مَرآهُ تَنسَرِبُ

That fries the ribcages and crucifies on the ribs

You see the knights behind them

وَعِندَمَا انبَسَطَتْ بِالبَاطِنِ انْقبَضَتْ

تَنوِي الشَّرَيشرِةَ السَّودَا وتَقْتَرِبُ

On the cliffs and the hills following

They tried a tunnel fleeing into it

فَجَاوَزَتهَا لِبيَضَاءِ الْعُيُونِ وَلَمْ

تصدها عن مياه الحاجب الحجب

If only your grip prevented them from fleeing

So Solomon descended upon them and what a lad

في الفكة انفك عنها الليد سالمة

مَن بَعدِ مَا قَد قضَى من جِلمةَ أرَبُ

The descent of the blazing wrath kindling while they are fuel

The star of the Caliphate pure of honor his traits

منَ الحَفِيَّ لِوِردِ الماجل اندفعتْ

تَؤُمُّ قَفصَةَ يَحْدوُهَا لَهَا طَرَبُ

When he appears or shows in the presence of humility

And at Ar-Rusayfi his knights plunged

وَفِي العَقيِلةِ بَثَّتْ مِن طَلائِعِهَا

من يُحسِنُ الخُبْرَ لِلأخبَارِ يَجتَلِبُ

Into a sea the ribs and sticks surge

And their grip took the right side and indeed

فَبَشَّرتهَا عَلى شَوقٍ بِأنَّ عَلى

ظَهرِ الدَّوَارةِ خَلقاً لِلرَّدَى قَربُوا

Bared swords with which all the blood dried

He trampled them in the waves and in

وَعَالَجَتْ فِي فُجُوجِ الشَّطحِ صَاعِدَةً

إلَى التَّلاقِي عِقَاباً مَالَهَا عُقُبُ

The corners of the group where the hearts split

They saw him at dawn over the night's darkness

وَصَادَفَتْ بَعْدَ أينٍ صَعبَ َضَاحيةَ

سَهْلُ الطَّرائقِ فِيهَا الدَّاهِسُ الحَزِبُ

And gloom for victory a key if they rode

That is his habit when he embarks on

بَاتَتْ تُسدَي عَلَى رَأسِ العُيُونِ وَمِنْ

هُناكِ زَالَ الحَفا واحْتَكَّتِ الرُكُبُ

A matter he desires its demand

They despaired when he raised his banner

ولجها الجانب الشرقي سابقها

وسدد الجوف منه الثاقب الذرب

That escaping his claws is a wonder

So they appealed to him to restore their booty

ظَلَّت بَتِيتَةُ بِالأجنَادِ شَاحِنَةً

فَأُمُّ الاقْصَاب فَالحِرشَانُ فالنَّقَبُ

If depriving them of it satisfied his plunder

And they shared with him willingly a share

فَالقَلعَةُ الصَّعبَةُ المَرقَى التي اقتَصَمَتْ

فِيهَا القَواضِبُ جَيشاً قَبلُ قَد ذَهَبُوا

The successful knows in it who has the upper hand

Thus the steeds and mounts were his fortune

هِيَ العَوَاصِمُ إلاَّ أنَّ سَالكَهَا

أقَلُّ مَا يَلتَقي مِن عُصمِهَا العَطَبُ

As was what the saddle and saddlebags contained

So the inks and pens catalogued them

فَدُستَهُم أيُّهَا المَولَى بِحَامِيةٍ

تَشوِي الصَّلَّى وَعَلى الأصلابِ تَنصَلبُ

And the branding stamped all they had earned

You stripped them of the clothes of tyranny they wore

تَرى الفَوَارِسَ كَالعِقبَان إثرَهُمُ

علىالشَّنَاخيِبِ والآكَامِ تَعتَقِبُ

When they took shade in a house no poles support

And they thanked you for what you granted them

وَحَاوَلُوا نَفَقاً يَغشَاهُ هَارِبُهُم

لَو كَانَ يَمنَعُهُم مِن بَطشِكَ الهَرَبُ

And restoring them was most precious of what they were given

And the Arab hordes entirely wilted

فَحَلَّ فِيهِم سُليمَانُ وأيُّ فَتىً

حُلُولَ نَارِ الغَضَا شَبّثْ وَهُم حَطَبُ

Falling before you under the night creeping away

And the hand of terror tore them apart so they dispersed

نَجمُ الخِلافَةِ صَافي العِرضِ شِيَمتُه

إذا جَلا أو بَدا في الحَضرَةِ الأدَبِ

The head cannot rejoin its limbs

So afterwards the mountain folk must beware and those

وفي الرُّصَيفي قَد خاضَتْ فَوَارِسُهُ

بَحراً تَمُوجُ بِهِ الأصلاَبُ والحُصُبُ

Who showed defiance and whoever trouble is in his head

And if they avoid jihad security is outstretched

وَحَازَ حَوزَتُهُم ذاتَ اليَمينِ وَقَد

نَضَا سُيُوفاً بِهَا كُلُّ الدِّمَا كَلَبُ

Or they plot thus the carpet of pardon turns

The spear is held back and the gaze pulled away

وَبَاتَ يَكبِسُهُم في الثَّالِجاتِ وفي

أنحَاءِ زَمرةَ حَيثُ القَلبُ ينشعِبُ

The sword erected and the hero called

They saw how you plunged the cave as an avenger

وَعَايَنُوا مِنهُ صُبحا فوق لَيلِ دُجى

وَالدُّهمُ لِلنَّصرِ مِفتَاحٌ إذا رُكِبُوا

And how your fangs arise ready to pounce

A care you singled out apart from kings though

وَتِلكَ عَادَتُهُ إذَا تَوَجَّهَ في

أمرٍ تَسَنَّى لَهُ مِن يُمنِهِ الطَّلَبُ

They praised you and know not what the reason is

And that is true of your dream which preceded

وَأيقنُوا عِندمَا أبدَى بِرايَتِهِ

إنَّ التَّخَلُّصَ مِن أظفارِهِ عَجَبُ

For your Master does not disappoint when He bestows

You live on for this kingdom supporting it

فَلاطَفوهُ بِأنْ يُحيي سَليبَهُمُ

إنْ كَانَ يُرضِيهِ فِي مَطلُوبِهِ السَّلَبُ

For God you do what pleases and avoid what angers Him

You remain with this kingdom boon companions

وَقاَسَمُوهُ عَلَى وَجهِ الرّضَى قِسمَاً

يَدْرِي المُوفَّقُ فِيها مَنْ له الغَلَبُ

With your praise poetry and sermons are sweetened

فَكَانَتِ الخَيلُ وَالآبَالُ حِصَّتَهُ

وَكَانَ فيمَا حَوَوْهُ السَّرْجُ والقَتَبُ

فَأصبَحَ الحِبرُ والأقلاَمُ تَرقُمُهَا

وَالوَسْمُ يُعْجِمُ منها كُلَّ ما كَسَبوا

أعرَيْتَهمْ من ثِيابِ البَغيِ ما سَتَروا

حِينَ استَظَلُّوا بِبَيتٍ مَا لَهُ طُنُبُ

وَأحْمَدوُكَ على ما قَد وَهَبْتَ لَهمْ

وَكَانَ إحْيَاؤهُمْ أعَزَّ مَا وُهِبُوا

وأجفَلَتْ زُمَرُ الأعْرَابِ قَاطِبَةً

تَهوِي أمَامَكَ تَحتَ اللَّيلِ تَنسَحِبُ

وَمَزقّتْهَا يَدُ الإرهَابِ فافتَرَقَتْ

لايَلحَقُ الَّرأسَ من أحيَائِهَا الذنَبُ

فَلْيحذَرَنْ بَعدَها أهلُ الجِبالِ وَمَن

أبدَى التَّجَنِّي ومن في رأسهِ شَغَبُ

وإن جَلَوا الجِهادَ الأمنُ منبسِطٌ

أو يُدْبِروا فَبِسَاطُ العَفوِ منقَلِبُ

والرَّمحٌ مُرتَجِزٌ والطَّرفُ مُنْحَفِزٌ

وَالسَّيفُ منتَصِبٌ وَالبَطْلُ منْتَدِبُ

همُ رأوْا كَيْفَ دسْتَ الغَورَ منْتَقِماً

وَكَيفَ تَنْصَبُ مِن أنيَابِكَ النُّوبُ

عِنايَةٌ حزتَهَا دُونَ المْلوكِ وَقَد

أثْنَوا عَلَيْكَ وَمَا يَدرُونَ مَا السَّبَبُ

وَذاكَ صَادِقُ رؤيْاكَ التي سَلَفَتْ

فَإنَّ مَولاكَ لاَ يُكدِي إذا يَهَبُ

لاَزِلتَ حَيَّاً لِهَذا الملكِ تَنصُرُهُ

لِلهِ تَفعَلُ مَا يُرضِي وَتَجْتنِبُ

ولابِرحْتُم بِهَذا المُلكِ أنديِةً

تَحلو بِمدْحِكُم الأشعَارُ وَالخُطَبُ
