Umm Khaled says when she had overcome him:
I drowned in my debts so make it brief
The palace refused one who takes shelter when madness descends at night
To the light of my fire, poor and destitute
O kindlers of my fire raise it up so perhaps
It will be lit for another impoverished late into the desolate night
A rider who spent the evening with a she-camel finds refuge
Either with you or with my expectant neighbor
There is no pot at the neighbor's except a smelly one
And this sufferer on a night of disgrace
The morning breeze almost strips him of his clothes
Except for a stained shirt in disgrace
What is it to us if generosity lights its glow
A generous man whose face is pale and red
Ask the shameful intruder, O mother of Malik
If he comes between my pot and my butcher knife
Shall I smile though he is the first of villages
And bestow my kindness on him without disgrace
So no palace until the rain brings relief
To every disheveled dusty one by my saddle
I protect my honor with property, even if paltry
What can your brother do if he forfeits his honor to buy it
The heirlooms of Majid bring me vessels
Of a generous man while my property frees the destitute
If I die one day, bring, O mother of Khaled
Your inheritance of a side, sword and pot
