فما كيّسٌ في الناس يحمد رأيه

فيوجد إلا وهو في الحبّ أحمق

No cunning man is praised for his counsel

When in love, but is found a fool,

وما من فتى ما ذاق طعم مرارة

فيعشق إلا ذاقها حين يعشق

Nor has any youth tasted the bitter draught

Of love's agony, but at the time he fell in love.
