1. مَا زِلْتَ تَنْظُر فِي عِطْفَيْكَ أبَّهَةً

    لاَ يَرْفَعُ الطَّرْفَ مِنْكَ التِّيهُ والصَلَفُ

    Still you glance around haughtily

    Unperturbed by confusion or arrogance

  2. لَمَّا رَأَيْتَهُمُ صُبْحاً حَسِبْتَهُمُ

    أسْدَ العَرِينِ حَمَى أشْبَالَهَا الغَرَفُ

    When you saw them at dawn, you deemed them

    Lionesses guarding their cubs in the den

  3. نَادَيْتَ خَيْلَكَ إذْ عَضَّ السُّيُوفُ بِهَا

    عُوجِي إِلَيَّ فَمَا عَاجُوا وَمَا وَقَبُوا

    You summoned your steeds when swords clashed against them

    Come to me, but they swayed not nor drew nearer
