ألَجَّ فُؤادِي الْيَوْمَ فِيمَا تَذَكَّرَا
وَشَطَّتْ نَوَى مَنْ حَلَّ جَوَّا وَمَحْضَرَا
My heart was stirred today as I recalled
And yearned for those who once gathered and dwelled
مِنَ الْحَيّ إذْ كَانُوا هُنَاكَ وَإِذْ تَرَى
لَكَ الْعَيْنُ فِيهِمْ مُسْتَرَاداً وَمَنْظَرا
Among the living, when they were there and you could see
Your eyes seeking them out and beholding their sight
وَمَا الْقَلْبُ إلاَّ ذِكْرُهُ حَارِثِيَّةً
خُوَاريَّةً يَحْيَى لَهَا أهْلُ أبهَرَا
For the heart is naught but the memory of them-
Humble and lowly, brought to life by the people of Abhara
