قَوْمٌ تَوَارَثَ بَيْتَ اللُّؤْمِ أَوَّلُهُمُ

كَمَا تَوَارثَ رَقْمَ الأذْرعِ الحُمُرُ

A people inherited the house of sorrow, the first of them

As the red pattern on the arm is inherited

تَجَنَّبَ الْمَجْد وَالمعروف أوَّلَهُمْ

كَمَا تَجَنَّبَ بَطْنَ الراحَةِ الشَّعَرْ

The first of them shunned glory and kindness

As the belly of the she-camel shuns hair
