1. وَلَو كُنتَ ذا عَقلٍ رَجَحتَ وَلَم تَكُن

    لِتَبطَرَ بِالنَعما وَلَو نِلتَ مَرْغَبا

    Had you been wise, you would have refrained, and not

    Reveled in fortune, even if you attained your wish.

  2. فَيا غَضّ نَبتٍ حَرَّكتهُ مِنَ الصّبا

    نَفيحةُ ريحٍ فَالتَوى مُتَقَلِّبا

    So cease being a sapling swayed by the morning breeze,

    Wavering at every puff of wind.

  3. مَتى كُنتُ عَدلَ الطودِ مِن آلِ مالِكٍ

    وَهَل ضَرعٌ شَختٌ يُعادِلُ أَغلَبا

    When was I ever crooked like the branch of Malik’s family?
