أطْلُبُ ما يَطْلُبُ الكريمُ من الرِز

ق لنفسي وأُجْملُ الطلبا

I seek what the generous seek of sustenance

I seek the best for myself and make the most beautiful requests

إني رأيت الفتى الكريمَ إذا

رَغّبتَه في صَنيعةٍ رَغِبا

I saw the generous youth, if

You incite him to a craft, he is inclined

والعبدُ لا يطلب العَلاءَ ولا

يُعطيك شيئاً إذا رَهِبا

The slave does not seek exaltation, nor

Does he give you anything if he is timid

ولم أجدْ عروةَ الخلائق غلاّ الد

دينَ لمّا اعْتَبرتُ والحَسَبا

I did not find the bond of creation tighter than

Religion when I reflected and took account

قد يُرْزَقُ الخافضُ المُقيم وما

شد بعَنْسٍ رَحْلاً ولا قَتَبا

The one who stays put may be granted sustenance while the one

Who travels the land restlessly gets no profit

ويُحْرَمُ المالَ ذو المَطيّةِ والرّ

حْل ومَنْ لا يزال مُغْترباً

The one with ambition and traveling gear is deprived of wealth

As well as the one who remains far from home
