مَرضى عَنِ الخَيراتِ في بَحرِ الرَّدَى
غَرقَى فَلاَ دَاعٍ لِنَهجٍ أَقوَمِ
Ailing, estranged from good deeds, in the sea of perdition—
drowned, with no one to summon them to a straighter path.
شُغِفُوا بِكُلِّ رَذِيلَةٍ مَذمُومَةٍ
صَرَفَت وُجُوههم لِوَجهِ الدِّرهَمش
They were consumed with passion for every rotten vice;
such passion turned their faces toward the face of the dirham.
نَامُوا عَنِ المَقصُودِ لم يَستَيقِظُوا
سَتَكُونُ يَقظَتُهُم لِخَطبٍ أعظَمِ
They slept, heedless of the true Goal, and did not awaken;
their awakening will be to a far graver calamity.
