1. قل لإخوان رأوني ميتاً

    فبكوني ورثوا لي حزنا

    Tell my brothers who saw me dead,

    Weep for me and mourn me with sorrow,

  2. أتظنون بأني ميتكم

    ليس ذاك الميت واللَه أنا

    Do you think that I am your dead one?

    By God, that is not the dead one, it is I.

  3. أنا في الصور وهذا جسدي

    كان بيتي وقميص زمنا

    I am in the image, and this is my body,

    It was my house and shirt for a while.

  4. أنا كنز وحجابي طلسم

    من تراب كان له فيه عنا

    I am a treasure, and my veil is a talisman,

    Made of dust that found comfort in it.

  5. أنادر قد حواه صدف

    كنت ممحوناً فعفت المحنا

    I am a pearl that an oyster contained,

    I was erased but the ordeal purified me.

  6. أنا عصفور وهذا قفصي

    طرت منه وبقي مرتهنا

    I am a bird, and this is my cage,

    I flew from it while it remained pawned.

  7. أحمد اللضه الذي خلصني

    وبنى لي في المعالي سكنا

    Praise be to God who freed me,

    And built for me a dwelling in the heights.

  8. كنت قبل اليوم ميتاً بينكم

    فحييت وخلعت الكفنا

    Yesterday I was dead among you,

    Today I am revived and cast off my shroud.

  9. وأنا اليوم أناجي ملأً

    وأرى اللَه جهاراً علنا

    Today I whisper filled with awe,

    And see God openly and publicly.

  10. عاكف في اللوح أقرأ وأرى

    كلما كان تنائي ودنا

    Secluded in the tablet I read and see,

    Everything that drew near and distanced.

  11. وطعامي وشراب واحد

    وهو رمز فافهموه حسنا

    My food and drink are one,

    It is a symbol, understand it well.

  12. ليس خمراً سائغاً أو عسلا

    لا ولا ماء ولكن لبنا

    It is not a delicious wine or honey,

    No, not water but milk.

  13. فافهموا السر ففيه نبأ

    أي معنى تحت لفظي كمنا

    Understand the secret, for in it is news,

    What meaning lies beneath my words hidden.

  14. فاهدموا بيتي ورضوا قفصي

    وذروا الطلسم بفنا

    Destroy my house and discard my cage,

    And leave the talisman to nothingness.

  15. وردائي وقميصي مزقوا

    واتركوا الكل دفيناً بفنا

    Tear my gown and shirt,

    And leave everything buried in nothingness.

  16. قد ترحلت وخلفتكم

    لست أرضى داركم لي وطنا

    I have departed, leaving you behind,

    Your homes are not pleasing to me as a dwelling.

  17. لا تظنوا الموت موتاً أنه

    لحياة وهي غاية المنى

    Do not think death is death,

    For it is life, the ultimate wish.

  18. حي ذا الدار تؤم مغرق

    فإذا مات أطار الوسنا

    Alive is he whom the abode has drowned,

    So when he dies, he takes flight on a pillar.

  19. لا ترعكم هجة الموت فما

    هو إلا نقلة من ها هنا

    Do not be shaken by the assault of death,

    It is but a transition from here to there.

  20. وخذوا في الزاد جهداً لا تنوا

    ليس بالعاقل منا من ونا

    And take supplies for the journey, do not sleep,

    Not wise among us is he who slumbered.

  21. وأحسنوا الظن برب راحم

    شاكر للسعي وأتوا أمنا

    And think good thoughts of the Merciful Lord,

    Thankful for effort, and come confidently.

  22. عنصر الأنفس منا واحد

    وكذا الجسم جميعاً عمنا

    The essence of our souls is one,

    And so is the body, all together from us.

  23. ما أرى نفسي إلا أنتم

    واعتقادي أنكم أنتم أنا

    I see my soul only as you,

    And my belief is that you are I.

  24. فارحموني ترحموا أنفسكم

    واعلموا أنكم في أثرنا

    So have mercy on me, you have mercy on yourselves,

    And know that you follow in our footsteps.

  25. أسال اللَه لنفسي رحمة

    رحمة اللَه صديقاً أمنا

    I ask God for mercy on my soul,

    The mercy of God, a faithful companion.

  26. وعليكم من سلامي طيب

    سلم اللَه عليم وثنا

    And upon you from me is pure peace,

    May God's peace be upon the devoted and loyal.
