1. You left me wasted by sorrows I struggle with,

At the valley bend I lament amid the wasted remnants of ruins.

  2. Were it not for Abu Dulaf, no kindness would live,

Nor would a hoped-for patron's rain-star rise laden with hopes.

  3. O son of Adnan's noblest men, as they well know,

And heir to ancient glory through paternal and maternal uncles.

  4. You are the one who sets the days in their place,

And turns time from one state to another.

  5. And never have you cast your gaze toward anyone

    Without decreeing livelihoods and lifespans.

  6. You visit in wrath, and by evening the white swords are satisfied,

And you beam, so the eyes of wealth weep.

  7. It is as though your horses, amid their tumult,

Were showers of rain cascading over showers.

  8. They emerge from death's engulfing depths, rising high,

Like fingertips spread by a chilled man warming himself at the fire.
