If I had her patience, or she my anguish,
If I had her patience, or if I had her despair
I would know what to undertake and what to leave undone.
I would know what is coming and what remains
I cannot bear both reproach on her account and passion for her;
I do not blame her nor pine for her
God has burdened no soul beyond what it can bear.
God does not burden a soul beyond what it can bear
When a caller calls out her name and makes me hear it,
When someone calls her name near me
A piece of my heart almost falls away at his call.
Part of my soul nearly falls
Blessed in judgment—may his resolves never cease
Al-Muwaffaq, resolute in his opinion
To make the solid mountains all but split asunder.
Mountains would nearly crack from it
As though his counsels had
As if opinions for him
Eyes that peer into the hearts of time.
Were insights into the hearts of time
