يا غافر الذنب من جود ومن كرم

وقابل التوب من جان ومُجتَرِم

O Forgiver of sins, with generosity and grace,

And Acceptor of repentance, from the devout and the sinner,

ومُسبِلَ السِّتر إحسانا ومرحَمَةً

على العُصاةِ بفيضِ الفضل والكرم

Bestower of concealment with kindness and mercy,

Upon the disobedient through abundant grace and nobility.

اقبل متانىَ واغفر ما جنته يدى

واستر عيوبي وباعدني عن التهم

Accept my wishes and forgive what my hands have committed,

And conceal my faults, and distance me from accusations.

وأيقظ القلبَ من نؤمٍ ومن سنة

واملأه بالعلم والأنوار والحِكَمِ

Awaken my heart from grief and from heedlessness,

And fill it with knowledge, enlightenment and wisdom.

وخلِّص النفس من غيٍّ ومن غِيَرٍ

واغسل فؤادي من ظُلمٍ ومن ظُلَمِ

Deliver my soul from error and from corruption,

And wash my heart from injustice and from being wronged.

وصن بفضلك منى كلَّ جارحة

عن المعاصي وعن داء وعن سقم

With Your grace, guard all my limbs

From disobedience, illness and disease.

وعافنى واعف عنى كلما خَطَرَت

خواطِرُ الغيِّ في صحوى وفي حُلُمى

Grant me wellbeing and pardon whatever evil notions

May occur to me while awake or asleep.

يا ربِّ إن كنتُ قد فرّطتُ في صِغَرى

فإنني اليوم قد أفرطتُ في الندم

O Lord, if in my youth I was excessive,

Today I have exceeded in regret.

ضيّعتُ عمريَ في لهو وفي لعب

وفي ارتكاب المناهى غير محتشم

I wasted my life in vanity and play,

And in committing prohibitions without dignity.

وكنت في غفلة عن كل موعظة

كأن سمعي عن الوعّاظ في صمم

I was heedless of all advice,

As if my hearing was deaf to preachers.

واليوم ايقظني وخط المشيب وقد

ولّى الشّباب وقامت دولة الهرم

Today grey hair has awakened me, as

Youth has departed and the state of old age has stood up.

كتمت سرّ وفار منه أزعجني

فذاع في الوجه بعد الكتم بالكتم

I concealed a secret that burst out from me

And spread openly after being concealed.

ولاح في مفرقي كالصّبح مبتسما

يطوى بساط سواد الليل من لمى

It shone on my forehead, smiling like the dawn,

Folding the carpet of the night's darkness.

وبعد خمسين عاما جئت معترفا

بما جنيت ولكن شافعي ندمى

After fifty years I came confessing

What I had earned, but let my regret intercede for me.

يا ربّ عفوك للعاصين متّسعٌ

وبحرُ جودكَ مورودٌ لكلّ ظَمِ

O Lord, Your pardon for sinners is vast,

And the sea of Your generosity is flowing for all who thirst.

فاجعل بفضلك حسن العفوِ يشمَلني

واغسل ذنوبي وما ألمَمتُ من لمَمِ

So let Your excellent pardoning include me,

And wash away my sins and my misdeeds.

فإنّ قلبي من التوحيد ممتلىءٌ

والشكرُ دأبى وآيُ الذكر من كلمي

For my heart is filled with monotheism,

Gratitude is my habit, and the verses of remembrance are my words.

ودَيدَني هيبةُ المولى وخشيتَهُ

وعن حقوقكَ لم أغفُل ولم أنَمِ

Reverence for the Master and fear of Him restrain me,

And I do not neglect Your rights, asleep or awake.

وحبّ خيرِ الورى عندي وعِترَتِهِ

وصحبِه فرضُ عينٍ قد سرى بدَمي

Love of the best of creation and his family

Is an essential duty that has mingled with my blood.

هذا اعتقادي وهذا كلّ مدّخَري

لموقفٍ أنت فيه جامعُالأمَمِ

This is my creed and all my provision

For a gathering in which You gather all peoples.

فإن قبِلتَ فهذا حسنُ معتقَدي

وإن ردَدتَ عرَتني زلّةُ القدَمِ

If You accept, this is the goodness of my belief,

And if You refuse, a misstep has exposed me.

لكنّ لي أملا في العفو يُطمِعُني

وفي شفاعة خير العُربِ والعجَمِ

But I have hope of pardon that gives me ambition,

And of the intercession of the best of Arabs and non-Arabs.

محمدٍ سيّد الكونينِ مَن نطَقَت

له الجبالُ وحَيّتهُ بغيرِ فَمِ

Muhammad, master of both worlds, for whom

The mountains spoke, greeting him without mouths.

ومَن دنا فتدَلّى من حظيرَتِه

كقابِ قوسينِ أو أدنى معَ العِظَم

Whoever drew near dangled from his enclosure

Like the two bow-lengths or nearer with greatness.

والعَرشُ والفرشُ والأفلاكُ خاشِعَةٌ

وخادمُ المصطفى من صفوَةِ الخدَمِ

The Throne, the carpets, and the orbiting spheres are humble before him,

And he is the Prophet's servant, from the elite of servants.

رأى الإلهَ بعَينى رأسهِ ورأى

مواهِبَ الفضل فاقت كلّ ذي قِيَمِ

He saw God with his own eyes and saw

Favors that surpassed all things of value.

وكان ما كانَ مما ليسَ يعلمُهُ

سوى المهَيمنِ والمختارِ في القِدَمِ

What occurred was what none knows

Except the Controller and the Chosen One of old.

سبحانَ من بصفاتِ الفضلِ جمّلهُ

فنالَ أعلى العُلا في الخُلق والشيَمِ

Glory to Him who adorned him with the traits of favor,

So he attained the highest ascent in morals and qualities.

السيدُ المصطفى المختار من مُضَر

ذُخرُ المساكين مثلى واسعُ الكرَمِ

The master Mustafa the Chosen One from Mudar,

Wealth of the poor, vast in generosity.

وكيف لا ولواءُ الحمد في يده

في الحشر يرفعهُ كالمفرَد العلمِ

How not, and the banner of praise is in his hand,

Which he will raise on the Day of Gathering like the singular flag.

حاشاهُ يمنَعُني فضلا مكارمَهُ

إذ غيثُ أنعُمهِ أهمى منَ الدّيَمِ

Far be it from him to deprive me of his abundant favors,

Since the rain of his gifts is more beloved than blood.

إنى أرى حُبّهُ ديناً ومعتقَداً

وحُبُّ عترَتهِ ذُخرى ومُعتَصَمى

I see love of him as a religion and creed,

And love of his family as my treasure and refuge.

يا خيرَ من سجَدَت للّهِ جَبهتُهُ

وقامَ للحَقّ إجلالا على قدَمِ

O best of those who bowed their brows to God,

And stood with reverence for the truth upon sanctified ground.

ومَن أضاء الدياخى نورُ غُرّتهِ

فانشقّ صبحُ الهُدى في الحلّ والحرَمِ

Whose glow illuminated the horizons when

The dawn of guidance split open amid encampments and sanctuaries.

وخيرَ من لجميعِ الخلقِ أرسلَهُ

بمُنتهى كرَمِ الأخلاقِ والشيَمِ

And best of those sent to all people

With the utmost nobility of character and manners.

أتيتَ والناسُ في غَيّ وفي عَمَهٍ

مثلَ السوائم من بَهمٍ ومن نَعَمِ

You came while people were in confusion and blindness,

Like beasts, heedless and enjoying comfort.

وعاكِفون على الأوثانِ دَيدَنُهُم

وأدُ البناتِ ولو في الأشهُرِ الحُرُمِ

Engaged with idols, their constant habit,

Burying daughters alive, even in the sacred months.

فجئتَهُم بكتابٍ جلّ منزِلةً

يهدى إلى الرشد بل يحيى من العدَم

So you brought them a Glorious Scripture

That guides to righteousness, indeed it gives life from nothingness.

قد أعجزتهُم وهالتُهم بلاغتُه

فأذعَنوا بعد ذاك الكبرِ والشمَمِ

Its eloquence confounded them and awed them,

So after that they acquiesced despite their arrogance and recalcitrance.

آياتهُ محكماتٌ كلّها عِبَرٌ

قديمةٌ صفةُ الموصوفِ بالقِدَمِ

Its verses are definitive, all lessons,

Ancient descriptions of the Timeless Described.

يزدادُ حسنا بتَكرارٍ لسامعهِ

أما سواهُ فقد يفضى إلى السأمِ

It increases in beauty with repeated recitations for its hearer,

While all else may lead to boredom.

فأدبرَ الشركُ في ذلٍّ وفي ضعةٍ

وأصبحَ النورُ يعلو أرفعَ القمَمِ

Thus polytheism retreated in humiliation and weakness,

And the light rose to the highest peaks.

وكم ضربتَ بسيفِ الحق في عنُقٍ

وكم هدمت لجيش الكفر من أطم

How many necks you struck with the sword of truth!

How many structures of disbelief you demolished!

وكم أبان حماةُ الدين من جلد

وشتّتوا الشركَ من دورٍ ومن خيمِ

How the defenders of the faith showed strength and firmness,

And scattered polytheism from homes and tents!

وساق عسكرُهم في الحرب من أسروا

كما يساقُ قطيعُ الشاء والغنمِ

Their army drove those they had captured in war

Like a flock of sheep and cattle herded.

من كلّ شهمٍ بأمر اللّهِ مُؤتمَرٍ

باللهِ منتصرٍ للحَقّ مُنتقِمِ

At the valley of Mecca on the day of victory, how they acted!

And cleansed the House from filth and deafness.

صيدٌ صناديدُ في الهيجاءِ تحسَبُهُم

أسدَ الشرى برزَت للصيد من أجم

Their faces shone with glittering blades,

Severing flesh from the enemies' necks.

كالشهبِ منقضة يوم النزال إذا

ما الحرب شبّت لظاها والوطيسُ حمى

They never yielded to enemies or showed weakness,

But sought victory through sincerity and resolve.

أصحابُ باس على الأعداء إ ذ جعلوا

لحمَ العداةِ غذاء الذئبِ والرخمِ

Their honor leads them, and victory guides them,

In every matter that elevates their faith.

ببطنِ مكة يومَ الفتح كم فعلوا

وطهّروا البيت من رجس ومن صممِ

And the Chosen One, quintessence of morals, guides them

To the heights through excellent deeds and words.

غرّ الوجوه بهاليلٌ غطارفةٌ

من كل قرم إلى لحم العدا قرِم

O Master, before the creation of the universe from eternity,

When Adam was clay not yet risen.

فما استكانوا لأعداء ولا وهَنوا

بل استعانوا بصدقِ القصدِ والهِمَمِ

From you comes bounty, from you comes good everlasting,

From you wealth is hoped through your boundless generosity.

فالعزُّ قائدُهم والنصر رائدُهم

في كل أمرٍ به إعزازُ دينهمِ

You are my grantor when people are unable

To grant me victory in war or peace.

والمصطفى صفوة الخلاق يرشدهم

إلى المعالى بحسن الفعل والكلمِ

No pillar but yours can stand for one who seeks pillars,

But your pillar does not crumble.

يا سيدا قبل خلق الكون من أزَل

وكان آدمُ في الصلصال لم يقُم

So extend to me a generous hand that you have filled,

And touch my heart with it, and fill it with wisdom.

منك النوال ومنك الخير متصلٌ

ومنك يرجى الغنى من فضلك السمم

Bestow upon me the hajj of Bayt in ease

And visitation in strength and dignity.

فأنتَ جاهى إذا ما الناس قدرَ كنوا

لغير جاهك في حرب وفي سلم

Make my life in these lands honorable,

With prestige, favor, and prosperity from my destiny.

فركنُ غيرك لا يقوى لمرتكن

لكن ركنك ركن غير منهدم

To you I complain of debts that weighed heavily

On their bearer, so be the best to pay them.

فامدد إليّ يدا بالجود قد ملئت

والمس فؤادي بها واملأه بالحكم

Your right hand's generosity overflows for its seeker,

And whoever seeks ample favors will be respected.

وامنن عليّ بحجّ البيت في سعة

وبالزيارة في عزّ وفي حشم

And attend when my predestined time of death arrives

With your smiling mouth at my final breath.

واجعل حياتي بهذى الدار في شرف

وعزة الجاه والإقبال من قسمي

And be my intercessor for my sins, taking my hand

On Judgment Day, for I am of tender kinship.

إليك أشكو ديونا ضاق حاملها

ذرعا فكن لقضاها خير ملتزم

And show me kindness when people are gathered

In distress amid crushing and blazing heat.

فجود يمناك فياض لسائله

ومن يمل لعريض الجاه يحترم

As they drown in a sea of terrors, plunging

In the sweat of their bodies, overwhelmed.

واحضر إذا حضر المحتوم من أجلى

وقت احتضارى بثغر منك مبتسم

And divert my opponent on the Day he tries me

And space constricts around my thronged gathering place.

وكن لذنبي شفيعا آخذا بيدي

يوم المعاد فإني من ذوى الرحم

When flaws are exposed and scrolls spread open

At a station with all creation packed together.

واعطف علي إذا ما الناس قد حشروا

ما بين مضطرب الاحشا ومضطرم

And people panic in fear and terror

When the Noble One manifests with a vengeance.

والكل من عرق الأجسام في غرق

إذ هم ببحر من الأهوال ملتطم

For I have no supporter but the best of creation,

And none but him is my refuge at all.

ورد عنّيَ خصمي يوم يرغمني

على القضاسء وقد ضاق الفضا أممى

For I have a covenant with him by my name

Ahmad, and he is the most loyal to covenants.

إذا العيوب بدت والصحف قد نشرت

في موقف بجميع الخلق مزدحم

I praised him as if when I praise him

I offer the ocean drops of blood.

وماحت الناس من خوف ومن فزع

إذا الكريم تجلى باسم منتقم

I cannot, nor can anyone, match his praise

After what has come in Noon and the Pen.

فليس لي غير خير الخلق من سند

وليس لي في سواه قط من عشَمِ

May God send blessings upon him eternally,

Whenever leaves stir with melodies and tunes.

فإن لي ذمة منه بتسميتي

بأحمد وهو أوفى الخلق بالذمم

And upon his family, companions and followers altogether

In every beginning and end from me.

مدحته وكأني حين أمدحه

أهديت للبحر قطرات من الديمِ

لا أستطيع ولا غيري مدائحه

من بعد ما قد أتى في نون والقلم

صلّى الإله عليه كل آونَة

ما أطرب الورق بالألحان والنغم

والآل والصحب والأتباع قاطبة

في كل مبتدأ منى ومختتم
