ذنوبي ضاع منها صدق صبري
وضاق بحملها ذرعي وصدري
My sins, though many, my patience is true,
And my soul and chest are burdened and heavy too,
فمنها دمع عيني في انسجام
ومنها القلب في قلق وفكر
My tears flow steadily in harmony,
While my heart is restless, anxious and worried.
فيا لقروح جفني من دموع
ويا لحشاشتي من حشو جمر
Oh how my eyelids ache from the tears,
Oh how my insides burn from embers and fears.
ودمعي ليس يطفى حر قلبي
ولو مدّ المدامع ألف بحر
My tears cannot extinguish my heart's blazing fire,
Even if they flowed like a thousand seas entire.
ومع هذا أراني عبد نفسي
وشيطان الهوى للنفس يغري
Yet I see myself a slave of desire,
Tempted by the devil and sin to acquire.
فمالي عن ذنوبي من مرد
ومالى عن عيوبي من مفر
I have no escape from my transgressions,
No refuge from my flaws and imperfections.
وما للشيب عندي من وقار
ومالي في المكارم حسن ذكر
Old age brings no dignity or grace,
No fame for virtues to embrace.
وضاع العمر في لعب ولهو
فوا أسفى على تضييع عمري
My life wasted in play and nonsense,
Oh what regret for my lost lifetime hence!
فكم أسرفت في كسب المعاصي
وكم قدمت من غبن وغدر
How much excess in sinful deeds,
And treachery sown like poisonous seeds.
ولكني ندمت وتبت لما
قزأت صحيفتي سطرا بسطر
But I repented when I read,
My book of deeds from first page to end.
إلهى قد وسعت الكل حلما
فحاشى أن تردّ يدى بصفر
My God, You are merciful and kind,
You would not turn away a repenting mind.
فبحرك لا تعكّره ذنوبي
ومد البحر لم يوصف بجزر
My sins do not disturb Your vast sea,
Its expanse remains, however wild I be.
وما أدري أعفو أم جزاء
من المولى وسوف إخال أدري
I know not, my Lord, if I'll be pardoned,
Or if justice awaits, I'm still uncertain.
إذا ما صرت في لحدي وحيدا
ولم يقبل لدى الملكين عذري
When I'm alone in my grave, no excuse heard,
No forgiveness from either angel conferred.
ولم يجد التنصل من ذنوبي
ولا الإصرار في كتمان إصري
When my sins cannot be concealed or denied,
And insistence on secrecy is futile and tried.
ولم أجد النصير لكشف كرب
ولم ألق المعين لشد أزري
With no helper to lessen my agony,
No ally to give me strength and unity.
ولم أعثر على خل وفي
يقوم بنصرتي وبجبر كسري
No dear friend to come to my aid,
To support me and mend all that might fade.
وجل الخطب وانكشف المعمى
وقل لشدة الأهوال صبري
When troubles abound and patience grows thin,
The horrors descend, and hope gives in.
فذو الأعمال في سعة وسعد
وذو الأموال في عدم وفقر
The men of deeds in ease and joy,
The men of wealth despite poverty.
ولم ينل السيادة غير طه
شفيع الكل في حشر ونشر
None shall attain glory but Taha,
Intercessor of all on Judgment Day.
ففي يده لواء الحمد يزهو
كبدر بعد أربعة وعشر
In his hand the Flag of Praise flies high,
Like the full moon in the vast open sky.
هناك أرى المصاعب قد تونلت
وجاء اليسر يسعى بعد عسر
There I see all troubles disappear,
Hardship departs and goodness draws near.
وبعد الخوف وافى كل أمن
وجاء الفوز مصطحبا بنصر
After fear comes total security,
Victory arrives with prosperity.
شفيع المذنبين ظلمت نفسي
ولكن أنت معتمدي وذخري
Intercessor of we who sinned,
My soul did wrong but you I lean.
وبعد الله جاهك لي ظهير
فما لسوا كما فوضت أمري
After Allah, you are my greatest pillar,
My matters to none but you I deliver.
فخذ بيدي فمتك الفضل يرجى
ومن يمناك بحر الجود يجر
Take my hand, for yours all favor,
From your right hand flows an ocean of vigor.
فشرعك شرعتي وهداك هديي
وحبّك في عروق الجسم يسري
Your path is my path, your guidance my guide,
Your love through my veins and body glide.
وعندي حب آل البيت فرض
وفخر لا يقاس بأي فخر
Loving the People of the House is a must,
A pride unmatched by any other I trust.
فهم أسمى الورى جاها وجدا
وهم سفن النجاة لكل بر
They are the highest of mortals in rank and deed,
The ships of salvation for all those in need.
وحسبى أنني منهم وأنى
سمسك أرتجيك لكشف ضري
It is enough that I am of them too,
Holding your rope, I hope you pull me through.
عليك الله صلى ما تغنت
بروض حماك ساجعة وقمري
I implore you, by the meadows of your abode,
Save this weeping slave on her difficult road.
وعترتك الكرام ومن يليهم
حماة الحق من صحب وصهر
And your noble family who came after,
Defenders of truth, all people's masters.
