في الشافعي حبر الورى

سر الشريعة قد سرى

The Shāfiʿī, the ink of the universe

The secret of Islamic law flowed through him

حتى سما هام الذرا

وسناه قد فاق القمر

Until he rose to the summit of greatness

And his brilliance surpassed that of the moon

كم من علوم أبرزا

وفضائل قد أحرزا

How much knowledge has he produced

And virtues has he attained

ولخصمه قد أعجزا

وأراه آيات العبر

And confounded his opponent

Showing him the lessons of life

والشرع نادى معلنا

بالشافعي نلت المنى

Islamic law proclaimed openly

That with Al-Shāfiʿī, you have attained your wish

ولبست أثواب الهنا

ووقيت اسباب الخطر

And worn the clothes of delight

And warded off causes of peril

ما مل من بعد الرضاع

طلب العلوم ولا أضاع

He never tired after weaning

Of seeking knowledge or wasted

وقتا ولا ترك السماع

للعلم أو ملّ السهر

Time or neglected listening

To knowledge or staying up late

فطعامه وشرابه

حل العويص ودأبه

His food and drink

Was solving the difficult, and his habit

كسب العلوم وقربه

فيما يرى عين السفر

Was acquiring knowledge and keeping company

With what his eyes saw in his travels

ملأ البسيطة بالعلوم

فسرت به مسرى النجوم

He filled the earth with knowledge

So its path progressed like that of the stars

حتى أقرّ له العموم

وبعلمه صحّ الخبر

Until all agreed unanimously

And his knowledge verified reports

للعلم منه وللحكم

جعلت بنو عبد الحكم

For knowledge and wisdom

The Banū ʿAbd al-Ḥakam family

تهب المنازل عن كرم

لضريحه السامي الأغر

Made their homes generous out of nobility

For his lofty and splendid tomb

فغدا حمى كل الأنام

لما ثوى فيه الإمام

So it became forbidden to all people

Because the Imam was laid to rest in it

من زارة حاشى يضام

أوأن يلم به الضرر

No visitor would be harmed

Or afflicted by any harm

نالت به مصر الصفا

والقطر منه تشرفا

Through him, Egypt attained purity

And glory through him it gained

وبآل بيت المصطفى

السادة الطهر الغرر

And through the People of the Prophet's House

The noble and virtuous ancestors

يا سعد من لهم استند

ولهم بإخلاص قصد

Happy is he who relies on them

And intends to visit them with sincerity

ولغيث غوثهم استمد

فالقرب للقربى ظفر

And seeks help at their time of distress

For closeness to kin is triumph

يا رب متع جمعنا

بالعز وارزقه الغنى

O Lord, make our gathering blissful

With might and grant it wealth

واجعل به الدين المتين

يسمو لأسمى مستقر

And make the firm religion through it

Ascend to the highest place

يا ربنا حسن الختام

نرجوك مع نيل المرام

O our Lord, make beautiful our end

We hope from You, upon attaining our goal

بالمصطفى البدر التمام

سر الوجود المفتخر

Through the Full Moon, the Pride of Existence

The honored secret of creation

صلى عليه وسلما

مولى الورى رب السما

Blessings upon him and peace

Master of the world, Lord of the heavens

والآل والأصحاب ما

في الأفق قد لاح القمر

And his Family and Companions for as long

As the moon shines in the horizon
