العز بالعلم لا جاه ولا مال
والفخر بالفضل لا علم ولا خال
Glory is through knowledge, not status or wealth
And pride is through merit, not science or ancestry
فكل عز بغير العلم منقطع
وكل كثير بدون الفضل إقلال
All glory without knowledge is cut off
And all abundance without merit is scarcity
وكل حال حلت والجهل رائدها
فإنها لذويها بئست الحال
Every situation dominated by ignorance
Is misery for its people
معزّة الجهل إدبار ومنقصة
وعزّة العلم إسعاد وإقبال
The glory of ignorance is decline and disgrace
While the glory of knowledge is prosperity and ascendance
يموت ذو الجهل لا ذكر ولا أثر
إن السراب ببطن البيد ختال
The ignorant die with no mention or trace
Mirages in the belly of the desert are fantasy
بكفى ذوى الجهل في الدارين منقصة
بين الورى أتهم في الناس جهال
The ignorant are disgraced in both worlds
Among people they are fools
تموت بالموت في الأحياء سيرتهم
إن الجهول لرمز النقص تمثال
Their legacy dies with their death among the living
For the ignorant are the epitome of deficiency
فذاك كمية في الكون مهملة
سيان والله إن داموا وإن زالوا
They are insignificant quanta in the universe
It is all the same whether they last or perish
لكن أولو العلم أحياء وإن قبروا
على مقابرهم نور وإجلال
But people of knowledge are alive even when buried
Over their graves is light and veneration
يستنشق الكل كالريحان سيرتهم
فالطيب شاف ونتن الريح قتال
Everyone inhales their legacy like sweet basil
While the stench of wind is deadly combat
أكابر الكون مهما طار طائرهم
هم الرعايا وأهل العلم أقيال
However high the bird of the arrogant soars
The scholars are still nobler and loftier
هم للزمان على طول المدى حلل
لكن سواهم لهذا الدهر أسمال
Through the ages they are the adornment of time
While others are the commodities of this life
أفعالهم من عيوب النقص سالمة
فليس فيها إذا فتشت إعلال
Their deeds are free of defects and blemishes
Scrutinize them and you will find no fault
هم الغياث إذا ما أزمة أزمت
وهم لدين النبي المصطفى آل
They are the saviors when crisis strikes
And they are the family of the Prophet Muhammad
بالهل ما خاب يوم القصد زائرهم
ولا اعتراه وحق الحق إذلال
Those who visit them sincerely are never disappointed
Nor subjected by truth to humiliation
هذا الإمام إمام الفضل من صغر
بعلمه ضربت في الناس أمثال
Since childhood this Imam of merit
Has set examples for people through his knowledge
بحر خضم ولكن ساغ مورده
حتى ارتوت منه أقطاب وأبطال
A stormy sea whose waters are potable
Quenching the thirst of heroes and champions
من ههنا الشرع والاداب قد نبعت
فالعلم من ههنا في الكون سيال
The foundations of Sharia and literature sprang from him
Disseminating knowledge throughout the universe
هذا هو ابحر سفن العلم جارية
من فوق لجته والفلك جوال
He is the most learned ship sailing
Above the sea's surface with the cosmos revolving
شراعها الشرع والقرآن رائدها
وسنة المصطفى المختار أحمال
Its sails are Sharia and Quran, its captain is
The way of the chosen Prophet steering its course
فانظر تر الكل مسرور بساحته
يرجو القبول وقلب الكل آمال
See how all are cheerful in his company
Hoping for acceptance, their hearts full of anticipation
عليهم مسحة الإخلاص مشرقة
لا ينطقون وصمت الكل أقوال
On them is the radiance of pure intentions
Their silence more profound than words
كل إليه بحسن القصد قد هرعوا
والكل للمدد الفياض سؤال
They rushed to him with good faith
Seeking his boundless favour through supplication
وكيف لا والإمام الشافعي له
جود وفضل كغيث السحب هطال
And why not, when the Imam Shafi'i
Is of overflowing generosity like pouring rain
فهو ابن عم رسول الله من فئة
شم الأنوف ومنها الجود ينهال
He is the cousin of Allah's Messenger
From a clan of sweet fragrance and cascading generosity
غر الجوه إذا ما جئت تسألهم
بشوا وأسد الشرى في الحرب إن صالوا
Rebuke the jealous if you come seeking from them
While the generous are lions in war when called upon
يكفى ابن إدريس فخرا ما استفاض به
صدق الحديث ولم تنكره أجيال
It suffices Ibn Idris as a source of pride
The authenticity of his Hadith undisputed for generations
بالعلم منه طباق الأرض قد ملئت
ومنه قد فتحت للعلم أقفال
Through his knowledge the horizons of earth have been filled
And through him the gates of knowledge unlocked
بعلمه مالك قد كان مغتبطا
والصاحبان وقالوا فيه ما قالوا
With his knowledge Malik was overjoyed
And the two companions said of him what they said
هذي شهادة حق وهي عادلة
لا جرح فيها ولا في الصدق إعلال
This is true and impartial witness
No blemish in it or truth causing disability
قولوا لمن ظن أن البعض يشبهه
أقصر فأنت بسوء الظن ختال
Tell those who think some resemble him
You are deluded in your accusation
لولا الإمام وأهل البيت بيتكم
لمزقت من بلاد النيل أوصال
Were it not for the Imam and People of your House
You would have been torn from the Nile valley
بالله زوروا ولا تصغوا لمعترض
فالكل لا شك للشيطان عمال
For God's sake, desist and pay the naysayers no heed
They are undoubtedly the devil's cronies
يا ويحهم مرقوا فالدين عندهم
في الرجل قيد وفي الأعناق أغلال
Alas, they have strayed from religion which to them
Is a shackle and yoke around necks
نور الكرامة حاشى الزيغ يطفئه
فالشرع كالسيف فتاك وقتال
The light of his blessings thwarts deviance
As Sharia is a lethal and combative sword
فيا إمام إليك الناس قد وفدوا
وعندهم من جميل الظن آمال
O Imam, people have come to you in droves
With beautiful expectations and hopes
أموا رحابك والإخلاص رائدهم
وما ثنتهم وحق الحق أشغال
They have frequented your halls in sincerity
Preoccupied only with the truth
إليك مدوا بحسن الظن أيديهم
فاعطف عليهم فحسن العطف إقبال
To you they have stretched their hands in good faith
So be gentle, for kindness invites reciprocity
وانظر لمصر وأهليها ومن حضروا
فكلهم في حماك اليوم نزال
Consider Egypt, its people and visitors
Who have all descended as your guests today
فأنت للبلد المأمون معتصم
وأنت للمشكل المعقود حلال
You are the trusted guardian of this country
The solver of its tangled complexities
فعن حماك جميع الناس ما عدلوا
يوما ولا عن حميد القصد قد ماللوا
Through your protection, people have been just
Never deviating from upright intentions
يا ربنا اجعل رجال العلم في شرف
إن الجميع لنصر الدين أبطال
O Lord, honor the people of knowledge
For they are all champions of religion
واختم بخير وفرج كل كارثة
فأنت وحدك دون الكل فعال
Conclude with the best and relieve all catastrophe
For only You, above all, are All Capable
