Among you who descended upon Najd
My tears flowed copiously down my cheek
And dress me in the garb of emaciation in remembrance
Of the dwellings of Layla al-Aamiriya or Hind
I yearn for the valley in which you reside
With the yearning of the saddled camels for flowers
And pour gently for the one walking slowly in the breeze
Though it does not relieve anguish or avail
And I sigh when the singer sings loudly on the sand dune
Reminding me of the shade of the howdah and the ostrich
And I have a melting love
Your departure from me, and passion took control
You traveled and left behind a loving heart
A brother of sighs not awoken from passion
I wept blood when your caravan departed
And the guide directed it to the field of distance
And I said to my patience the day you built a new encampment
It did not remain with me an hour after you
I ask the drifts of soft sand about your departure
Perhaps news from one who met you will give tidings
And I ask the bright lightning, perhaps through it
News of you, O inhabitants of the unique banner, will come
O lightning, when you pass the dwellings, convey
Greetings of one steadfast to the covenant
Whenever the scent of camphor wafts and appears
I remember the days of your nearness and my flowers
It watered a dwelling in the lowland, lowland with my tears
And revived the good life, a fertile quarter in Najd
