If I were infatuated with it alone

I would pardon my blamers for my passion

But when all creation is in love with it

Why should I conceal what’s in my heart?

The gentle breeze has languished for its charm

And so sickness appeared in the youth of Najd

It has the eyes of flowers glancing

    With looks filled with languor

And but for your father’s supple stature

I would not have wished for the softness of silk

O my murderess, my heart will always yearn

Whether near or far, for you

You may be unjust to me, my hope

And I must be content with what you grant

And if your love sheds my blood, my pride

    My fortune and joy

I hid my love when you hid in disdain

As if we had made a vow

You have an eye whose lid forever complains

Of the gloom of a capricious fate

You have a cheek, when I expressed my view

    Released my tears as ransom
