انعت مهرا سبط الفرات
ورداً طمرّاً مدمج السراة
She mounts her steed unrestrained, like rose buds tightly packed,
In the morning heading forth, breasts swaying as she trots,
يغدو بنهد في اللجام عات
نعائماً عشرا مطرّدات
With ten gentle swayings, anklets jingling as she walks,
She obeyed and surrendered, O Sovereign Lady.
صك العراقيب هجنّعات
فانصاع وانصعن موليات
Nothing but gifts and generosity,
Until they gathered closely quarrelling,
ما كان الا هاكه وهات
حتى اجتمعن متناغصات
With calumny and betrayal from the guards,
Disturbing the breast of the slumbering dovecote,
بالسهب والغدر من الحماة
واختلّ حضناً هيقةٍ شوشات
So she fell from the back of the litter,
Without exaltation or prayer,
فانعقرت من اخر الهيقات
بغير تكبير ولا صلاة
As if opposed to the riders.
