ساقٍ سَعى لِلطّلى بِالكأسِ يَملَؤُها
صارَت عَلى خَجلٍ مَلأى مِنَ العَرقِ
A cupbearer went to the vintner, bearing the cup to be filled.
Bewildered by bashfulness, the cup stood brimming with sweat.
لَكِن حَكَت لَونَ خَدَّيهِ وَوَجنته
وَقَد سَقاني فَلا أَصحو ولَم أفقِ
Yet it mirrored his color—his cheeks and cheekbone.
And indeed he gave me drink, so I never sober, nor have I come to my senses.
