In the canopied palace is a moon at its fullest,
lovely in graceful charm, striking the heart.
Fond of khalūq perfume, he gives off
the scent of bay laurel when he rises, turning back.
He wears fine wool, ornate cloaks, and silk,
and newly woven striped cloth from Yemen.
I saw the beloved reveal a hand
that the lover saw only henna-dyed.
