لا خَيرَ في حُبِّ مَن يُرجى فَواضِلُهُ
فَاِستَمطِروا مِن قُرَيشٍ كُلَّ مُنخَدِعِ
There is no good in loving one whose bounties are merely hoped for;
so draw down largesse from every guileless man of Quraysh—
تَخالُ فيهِ إِذا حاوَلتَهُ بَلَهاً
عَن مالِهِ وَهوَ وافي الدينِ وَالوَرَعِ
one whom, when you make your bid, you take to be heedless
of his wealth, though he is perfect in faith and piety.
