يَدعونَ مَروانَ كَيما يَستَجيبَ لَهُم

وَعِندَ مَروانَ حارَ القَومُ أَورَقَدوا

They call on Marwan, that he might answer them,

Yet with Marwan the people are confounded and have fallen into deep slumber.

قَد كانَ في قَومِ موسى قَبلَهُم جَسَدٌ

عِجلٌ إِذا خارَ فيهِم خَورَةً سَجَدوا

In the people of Moses before them was a body -

A calf which, when in their midst it lowed, they bowed down before.
