1. Welcome, a warm welcome, to spring’s arriving hosts,

    and to its smiling mouth as it rises;

  2. its radiances seem a robe

    of sumptuous, finely wrought brocade from Sana‘a.

  3. How delightful a radiant visitor it is!

    It called to pleasure, and I was the listener.

  4. It spread its carpets over the earth,

    and everything you behold of them is wondrous.

  5. As though the chamberlain, possessor of bounty and—

    benevolence—Isma‘il, patron of all—

  6. had bestowed upon it the sweetness of his character;

    through those virtues, all our days are spring.

  7. May he continue, safe and sound, as long as

    a turtledove calls from a many-branched bough.
