لا يأمنن صروف الدهر إنسان

ولا نوائبه فالدهر خوان

No human is safe from the blows of fate,

Nor its adversities, for time is treacherous.

فكم أباد من الماضين من ملك

له بسطوته عز وسلطان

How many kings of the past with might

And authority, honor and sovereignty, did it destroy?

اين الملوك التي ذلت لعزتهم

كل الرقاب ومن خوف لهم دانوا

Where are the kings whose glory humbled

All necks, who were obeyed out of fear?

أين الجبابرة العادون أين أولو

الأخدود أم اين كسرى أين ساسان

Where are the tyrants, the oppressors? Where are those

With fiery pits? Where is Chosroes, where is Sasan?

دعوا أجابوا فصاروا عبرة وخلت

منهم ديار وأحياء وأوطان

They answered the call and became lessons.

Their homes and lands were abandoned.

فأصبحوا لا ترى لا مساكنهم

فليعتبر من له للحق إذعان

Their dwellings cannot be seen,

So let those who submit to truth take heed,

وهكذا الدهر لم تؤمن عواقبه

له إلينا إساءات وإحسان

For the blows of fate cannot be avoided,

To us it brings harm and good.

تبارك اللّه ما الأسواء دائمة

وكلما قد مضى آن أتى آن

Blessed is God, adversity does not last,

And all that has passed is replaced by what is to come.

كل المصائب قد تسلى نوائبها

إلا التي ليس عنها الدهر سلوان

All calamities, their pains are relieved,

Except those which time does not console,

هي المصيبة في آل الرسول فقد

سارت بأخبارها في الناس ركبان

The tragedy of the Prophet's family, for

Its stories circulated among all people.

من آل بيت رسول الله شر ذمة

من النوابغ أحداث وشبان

The family of God's Messenger, the worst violation

Of sanctity, the young and the youths.

آووا لبعض بيوت الله من فرق

من العدو وللأعداء عدوان

They sought refuge in some of God's houses

From those who divided and the enemy's oppression.

فجاء قوم من الفجار تقصدهم

بكل سوء لهم بغي وطغيان

But a group of villains came with intent

Of evil, tyranny and transgression.

لما أحاطوا بهم إليهمو التجؤوا

فأمنوهم ولكن عهدهم خانوا

When they surrounded them and they appealed

For safety, they promised but their oaths they betrayed.

وحالفوهم على فوز بأنفسهم

لكنهم ما لهم عهد وأيمان

They made pacts to spare their souls

But they had no covenant or faith.

سلوا عليهم سيوف البغي واقتحموا

كما تهجم جبار وشيطان

They let loose on them the swords of injustice, and stormed

Like a tyrant or satan.

وباشروا قتلهم بما بدا لهم

فبعضهم ذابح والبعض طعان

And they began killing them however they wished,

Some butchered, some stabbed.

أو باقر لبطون أو ممثل أو

ضراب سيف وفتاك وفتان

Some disemboweled, some dismembered,

Others striking with swords, murdering and slaughtering.

أو مقتف إثر مهزوم ليقتله

وقلبه لدم الأشراف ظمآن

Some pursuing the fleeing to kill,

Their hearts thirsty for the blood of nobles.

أو كاسر عظم مقتول وقاذفه

كما تكسر أصنام وأوثان

Some breaking the bones of the slain,

As idols and statues are destroyed.

أو خائض بدماء القوم مفتخر

بالسفك مستولع بالهتك ولهان

Some plunging into the bloodbath gloating

In murder, reveling in violation and humiliation.

وكل هذا وآل البيت ما رفعت

لهم عليهم يد والرب ديان

Through all this the Prophet's family did not

Raise a hand against them, for God is the Judge.

إن يستجيروا بجاه المصطفى شتموا

أو بالصحابة سبوا ليت لا كانوا

If they sought the Messenger's intercession they were abused,

Or the companions they were vilified, if only that had not occurred.

أو يستغيثوا يغاثوا من دمائهم

أو يستقيلوا الردى فالقلب صوان

Or if they cried for help from their bloodshed

Or for respite from the calamity, but hearts had hardened.

فلو سمعت عويل القوم من بعد

إذ يستغيثوا لهدت منك أركان

If you had heard the screams of the people after

Their pleas went unanswered, your pillars would have shaken.

يا رب مستنصر من ليس ينصره

تحت السيوف طريح النفس غلبان

O Lord, one seeking aid but has none,

Lying slain, a helpless soul.

يا رب أرملة ريعت بصاحبها

وحولها منه أيتام وصبيان

O Lord, a widow torn from her husband,

With orphans and children around her.

ألا ذوو نجدة ألا ذوو همم

ألا ذوو غيرة للحق أعوان

Is there no helper, no honorable man,

No zealous defender and supporter of truth?

ألا عصابة حق للتقى انتسبوا

لنصرة الدين أكفاء وأقران

Is there no band of brothers in faith,

Worthy and equal in aiding religion?

ألا أماجد ذبوا عن نبيهم

ألا حماة لعرض المصطفى صانوا

Is there no glorious one to protect their Prophet?

No guardian of the Messenger's honor?

هذا جزاء رسول الله من فئة

قلوبهم ملؤها إثم ونيران

This is the reward of God's Messenger from a band

Whose hearts are filled with sin and fires.

آذوه في آله وأحرقوا دمهم

وما عدا كل هذا شأنه شانوا

They harmed his family and shed their blood,

Other than this they had no quarrel.

وهل يطاق سباب المصطفى علنا

وهل تطيق سماع الشتم آذان

Is it bearable to insult the Prophet openly?

Can ears bear to hear the abuse?

لا خير في عيشة والمصطفى هدف

لأسهم الطغي ذا والله خسران

There is no good in life if the Prophet is targeted

By arrows of tyranny. Such is utter loss.

إن لم تقوموا بكف الشتم عنه فمن

يقم به ولكم بعزه شان

If you do not rise to stop insults against him, who then

Will do so? His glory is your glory.

وأنتم يا رعاة الناس بينكم

كتب الحديث وآيات وقرآن

You leaders of people, between you

Are narrations, verses and the Qur'an.

قوموا لنصرة دين الله واعتصموا

على أناس لهم للحق خذلان

Rise to defend God's religion and stand united

Against those who have abandoned truth.

إن تنصروا اللّه ينصركم ويهدكم

ويستبين لكم في الدين برهان

If you support God, He will support you and guide you,

And the proofs of religion will become clear.

لا زلت أنشد بيتا صيغ من درر

منظم فيه ياقوت ومرجان

I continue to recite a poem crafted

With pearls and coral in arrangement.

ماذا التقاطع في الإسلام بينكم

وأنتم يا عباد الله إخوان

What is this discord in Islam between you,

When you, servants of God, are brothers?
